Duval County Court Judge, Group 9

Florida judicial elections are nonpartisan. County court judges are elected for six-year terms. To retain their seats, they must be re-elected. County judges hear criminal misdemeanors – those are crimes that have possible sentences of up to one year in jail – and civil cases in which the amount in dispute is $30,000 or less.

I've dedicated my career to public service. This is my way of giving back to my community with the talents that I have acquired. I believe everyone in Duval County deserves to have a judge on the bench that will listen and judge impartially with a compassion for the people that are being served as well a passion to ensure justice and the law are being followed. I know that I can do that, so this is the next logical step in my career. I want to continue to serve the people of this community.
I plan to bring patience, compassion, and discernment to the bench. I believe these qualities, along with a listening ear are essential tools needed to make clear and consistent rulings while following the law.
Ideally we do live in a society where there is access to legal help, I think the biggest disconnect is people not being aware of how to go about getting the help they need. Often, there may be resources in place to assist individuals, but those that need it most are not educated on the existence of the resources or how to go about accessing them. It is important that we educate people on ways to access the legal system, and the resources available to assist them in navigating the legal system.
I am a strong believer in education. Education is the key to people's understanding of the legal system and how it intertwines in their own lives. Once people understand the system and how it works, I think that will naturally build their trust in the system. Understanding, as well as visibility. When people are exposed to the system in their own lives then it fosters a sense of trust. Education and consistency are the key to improving public trust in the legal system.
