Radical Florida Republicans BANNED abortion with virtually NO exceptions. I support LIMITING government interference with patient’s medical care and giving people the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions with their doctors. Elitist Republicans have run Florida for the past 30 years; on THEIR watch, Florida’s property insurance premiums skyrocketed - now at 4X the national average! All because Florida’s greedy Republicans are friends with insurance companies and have taken MILLIONS in contributions from them! We MUST LOWER housing & rent costs.
Our state government can do a lot besides what they've been doing of just encouraging more development of expensive, cheaply made housing complexes and interstates. Corporate ownership of housing should be regulated, especially when it comes to trailer parks and senior citizen living. First time homebuyer programs need to be offered and funded - I used one in 2017, but these weren't available for my younger sibling a few years later. It is also important to understand the impacts of climate change and extreme weather on housing and insurance prices.
I have worked in voter education and as a poll worker. Our checks and balances are amazing, however, elitist Republicans don't want everyone to vote. They have tried to throw in roadblocks such as voter ID laws, requiring voters to submit for vote by mail more often and restricting felons returning rights to vote. Most of the counties and supervisor of elections (SOE) do incredible work - especially what I've seen first hand in Hillsborough County. I would retract the recent Vote By Mail restrictions and further fund voter outreach by SOEs.
Florida is facing many problems, but most are made worse by the complex problem of climate change. Florida can do more to mitigate our contribution to climate change, but more critically we must create legislation that protects people from the realities of a warming planet. For the past free years, I lobbied with Reclaim Florida's Future for All to pass smart policies, but year after year the legislation dies in committee. I intend to be a voice for young people who care about having a livable future in Florida.
This is one of the most important challenges facing Floridians and Republicans have wholly created the problem. I empathize with the pro-life movement, but the reality has had a horrific impact on women's health as doctors are choosing between possibly breaking the law or providing care to women who want children, but have complications that require aborting a pregnancy. I support LIMITING government interference with patient’s medical care and giving people the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions with their doctors.
I would support gun restrictions and regulating access to weapons that includes gun safety education. I think the current mandates for monthly shooter drills is not helping and instead harming children's mental health and ability to learn. Schools need more mental health funding to help with early intervention. I do not support having more guns in the schools in the hands of resource officers or teachers or acting like these tragedies are inevitable.
I was raised in Florida and educated in public schools as well as Florida colleges. We have dedicated teachers and a population that believes strongly in quality education. However, we have not done enough to support teacher salaries and have allowed for too much public funding to transfer to charter and private schools which aren't accessible to all students and has a negative impact on children learning.
