One of my highest priorities is the environment of the Northwoods. My extensive experience in agriculture and forestry has provided me with the experience necessary to help address the policy issues related to the environment.
Inadequate housing stock is a significant problem in the Northwoods, as it is in many other locations. I believe the best approach would be to study the strategies of other locations and states and adopt those than seem right for Northwoods families.
I believe every person's vote should count. I also believe that legislators cannot resist the temptation to tamper with voting district boundaries to improve the electoral success of their party and themselves. I favor an independent redistricting process free of legislative involvement to create maps that are designed in a public process that insures fair and competitive races across the state.
Families, businesses, and government should be encouraged to use renewable natural resources such as forest products whenever possible. Strategies to encourage the use of renewables should include publicity, tax policies, and demonstration projects.
K-12 and higher education should have their funding increased from state revenues sources to ensure all public education students receive appropriate funding. This funding would reduce the reliance on property taxes and tuition levels for all Wisconsin students, including students with special needs. The state should also reduce funding for private education and re-direct such funds to our public schools and community and four year colleges and universities.
