I want to work to restore bipartisanship and civility to Madison. For too long we have used ideology rather than common sense to govern Wisconsin, which has led to bad outcomes for public policy and, by extension, our state. I want to bring a moderate, common-sense voice back to Madison, so we can focus on tackling key issues like education, affordable childcare, housing, climate change, and reworking the formulas for revenue sharing for municipalities, towns and schools.
I strongly support working to build more affordable housing and have worked within my role in city council to encourage more affordable housing units built. The issue of housing affordability is one of the biggest problems facing the Fox Valley. I will continue to encourage cooperation from the builders, realtors and local and state government to find ways of increasing the inventory of affordable small family and retiree homes.
1, Codify Roe into the state law and repeal the 1849 abortion ban. 2. Protect the right to contraception, in all cases 3. Ensure IVF options continue to be available to those struggling to start a family
The funding mechanism in Madison must be rectified. Withholding inflationary increases for over a decade has been extremely damaging. I will also work to augment the voucher system in place. Currently, the public school system is funded at approx $11,500 per pupil. This number is based on an average cost per school year. The cost of educating special education children and newcomers is much higher compared to a traditional, English speaking student which may only cost $4000. As an example, in the 2025 school year there will be a new special needs child entering public school who will require a 1:1 full time nurse. This will be an additional $90,000 per year in costs to the school to ensure the child can safely be given the opportunity to learn. The voucher program reimburses at Approx $13,800 per student. Public schools have both an opportunity and an obligation to educate everyone regardless of the situation. It is fiscally IRRESPONSIBLE to continue with this method
I believe moving to an independent redistricting panel is the best way to ensure fair maps. I think neither party should have the power to draw themselves into a permanent majority. Creating a non-partisan commission to draw maps is the fairest way of doing redistricting that respects voter's right to competitive elections.
