FY2025 Capital Budget included 62.7 million for school major maintenance and 30.9 for construction, the largest increase in 13 years. FY2025 Operating Budget included; 174.5 million (680)BSA increase, 479,000 to make reduced lunches free to students, 750,000 for technical and career educational initiatives, 500,000 for hunter education and safety, 500,000 for Alaska Resource Education, 7.3 million increase to Pupil Transportation, 11.9 million in Maintenance of Equity, 5.2 Million for K-3rd Reading Proficiency, 1.5 Million increase for Residential school funding, 600,000 in Coding. The above list is in addition to the base Education Funding. These items were voted for and passed by my Majority caucus, the Minority voted No.
Developing more hydro projects similar to Bradley Lake and increasing its capabilities with the Dixon Divergent Plan is a solid start. We should look at the possibilities of new Micro Nuclear projects, similar to the one slated to be installed at Eielson Air Force Base. These would be a good start to increase our energy supply and lower rates.
Developing our natural resources like Timber, Oil, Gas and Rare Earth Minerals creates new jobs and higher revenue to the State.
Requiring Voter ID would be a good step in securing trust in our elections. Can you open a bank account without an ID? No. Can you get on an airplane without an ID? No. Can you rent a hotel room without an ID? No. So why do we not require an ID for one of our most important civic duties?
I oppose the open primary and rank choice voting, it was pushed in Alaska by dark outside money and has created an increase in spoiled ballots and disenfranchised voters.
