I’m a proud graduate of UNLV, where I served as Student Body President, representing 23,000 students and advocating for key initiatives such as expanding resources for veterans and supporting the UNLV School of Medicine. Currently, I serve as the Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Nevada and Las Vegas Chapters, where I represent the needs of the architecture profession, including advocating for stronger alignment between education and industry needs. My experience with the Vegas Chamber as a Public Policy Manager involved working on impactful community and educational initiatives, giving me a strong foundation to serve as University Regent for District 1.
The most pressing issue is ensuring that students have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed in both their education and future careers. While institutions provide vital services like academic advising and career counseling, we need to expand access so more students can benefit. Additionally, we must better align educational programs with Nevada’s growing industries, ensuring that graduates are prepared to enter the workforce with relevant skills. Lastly, making higher education more accessible for all remains critical to our state’s future.
To improve education quality, we need to expand access to essential support services, including advising and career counseling, to help students stay on track and succeed. Strengthening partnerships between higher education and industries is key to ensuring that students graduate with the skills employers are looking for. Additionally, we should provide more diverse educational pathways—such as certificates, apprenticeships, and traditional degrees—so every student has the opportunity to pursue the route that best fits their goals.
1. Engage: Make higher education accessible to every Nevadan by offering multiple pathways to success, from traditional degrees to apprenticeships and certificate programs. 2. Empower: Expand student support systems to provide more comprehensive services, such as academic advising and career counseling from those already in the industry, keeping students motivated and on track. 3. Elevate: Align educational programs with workforce demands to ensure students graduate with the skills necessary to thrive in Nevada’s growing economy.
