I believe we need to restore abortion rights in Iowa to its pre-2017 status and codify that in Iowa law as well as enshrine abortion rights into the Iowa Constitution.
We must raise the minimum wage to $15 and index it to inflation. We should also build more homes including multifamily units as well as pass laws that prevent speculation from Wall Street so new homes can't be purchased by private equity for the purposes of renting out at higher rates. We should also reduce taxes on groceries.
First, I believe we should start with education. Start with how to properly store firearms and firearms safety. This can prevent accidental deaths and shootings. I believe we should reinstate waiting periods for handgun purchases. Doing so can prevent needless deaths from suicide. We should restore concealed carry permitting.
I believe in universal voter registration. Everyone over 18 has a constitutional right to vote and the state should not be enacting barriers to voting. We have a voter ID law in place in Iowa and having a valid ID should be all that is needed to be in place to show up and vote.
As a state, we should move to net zero carbon emissions from our power generation. Using a combination of wind, solar, and geothermal energy to produce energy in Iowa. We should invest in public transportation and personally, I would love to see passenger rail connect Cedar Rapids and Iowa City and the corridor. We should also restore and expand wetland conservation as wetlands act as a both a carbon sink and flood prevention.
