education/Degrees I received a Bachelor's Degree in History from SUNY Binghamton, a Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University, a JD from the University of Georgia School of Law, and a Master of Law from the Army JAG school.
experience I served in the Army for 25 years, first as an Infantry Officer, then as a JAG Attorney where I served as a legal advisor, a prosecutor at Fort Hood where I fought to protect Servicewoman from threats of Sexual Violence, and an Ethics Official on the White House National Security Council.
family My wife Cindy and I, along with our son Max and our daughter Madi, live in Prince William County.
When my father emigrated to the United States with me, my two brothers, and my grandmother, he had less than $800. Through hard work and faith in the American Dream after many lean years, we were able to thrive. I’m running for Congress because for too many families access to this opportunity is becoming out of reach. I will work to strengthen Unions' ability to grow their membership, collectively bargain for higher wages, and increase access to apprenticeships and workplace training. I will fight to codify the recent actions to empower workers by the FTC. To fight exorbitant housing costs I will work with local governments and stakeholders to increase the housing supply in Northern Virginia to make it easier to buy or rent a home.
Climate change is an existential threat to our country, and Virginia is particularly at risk. President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act was a critical step forward, but we must keep pushing to build on this progress. In Congress I would work to curb greenhouse gas emissions by increasing standards, investing in public transportation, and expanding the role of renewables in our energy system. We have seen significant technological breakthroughs, in particular Nuclear and Carbon Capture, but a lack of proper government funding has limited the growth of these technologies. In Washington, I would work to provide direct resources for these cutting-edge technologies which I believe are critical for our goal to be carbon neutral.
Since the disastrous overturning of Roe almost two years ago, we have seen horrific stories from across the country of women being denied access to life-saving abortion care. In Congress, my first priority will be to restore the protections of Roe by passing the Women's Health Protection Act which will ensure that women can make their own healthcare decisions without interference from their local government. I will defend any attempts to repeal the ACA or Medicare which provide critical access to healthcare for millions of Americans. I will work to cap the price of life-saving drugs, like insulin, so that patients are never forced to ration their medicine or choose between providing for their family or fighting for their health.
As a refugee who came to the United States as a child, I know firsthand that America’s greatest strength is our foundational ideal of being a country of immigrants. We must streamline the path to citizenship. We currently have hundreds of thousands of well-educated immigrants, many of whom attended college in the U.S. who are desperate to stay in our country and live the American dream. In Congress, I will work tirelessly, and across the aisle, to finally solve our country's immigration process. We can, and we must, be able to protect our borders while allowing for robust legal immigration.
I decided to run for Congress because I truly believe the future of our Democracy is at risk. In Congress, I would be proud to champion the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to fight against efforts to suppress the right to vote and restore the preclearance requirement for areas with a history of voter suppression. In addition to guaranteeing voters access to the ballot box, we must also strengthen the protections for poll workers and election officials who have become targets of MAGA extremists. If elected I will work tirelessly to pass federal legislation to protect these workers and prosecute those who seek to undermine our free and fair elections through threats and intimidation.
Aiding our allies is critical to promoting peaceful cooperation around the globe, and denying the ability for authoritarian regimes to spread. In Ukraine, we are upholding our decades-long promise to assist them in resisting Russia, all while empowering American manufacturers, and keeping American soldiers out of harm's way. If we stop helping the Ukrainians fight this invasion, Russia will only continue on its mission to reconstruct the Russian empire, directly confront NATO, and plunge all of Europe into war. We cannot let that happen. I am proud of the Biden administration for standing with the people of Ukraine.
