1. To make the Sherrif’s office non-political and to provide all citizens with equal protection under the law. 2. To fix employee retention in the jail, patrol, 911 and administration. 3. To drive out all forms of Human Trafficking and Fentanyl from our county. 4. To implement a Reserve Deputy Program made up of recently retired law enforcement professionals who live in Kootenai County to assist current deputies and to reduce the Sheriff’s patrol budget. 5. To conduct a forensic audit of the sheriff’s office to ensure all taxpayer funds are being used appropriately and where possible, reduce the taxpayer’s burden.
Employee retention is poor. Despite competitive wage increases in the past several years, staffing issues at KCSO persist and point to internal morale issues, not wage issues. For example, a shortage of 911 dispatchers is putting residents at risk and is impeding KCSO’s ability to dispatch emergency resources as needed. Also, the jail is down 20 Deputies, leading to forced overtime for current deputies and contributing to employee burn-out. I will lead the department with integrity by eliminating favoritism and unfair advancement, while at the same time promoting employees based on merit. This change in focus, which includes creating an atmosphere of extreme ownership combined with competitive wages will rapidly lead to employee retention
As Sheriff, I will be implementing a volunteer citizen’s posse comprised of vetted adult individuals from diverse backgrounds and expertise to be called upon if the county needs emergency support due to natural or man-made disasters. It is my belief that the citizens of this county can respond to local events faster and more efficiently than any other government entity to maintain the rule of law. I welcome every citizen who wants to participate, and no one will be denied due to race, sex, religion or political affiliation. We will NOT be issuing these volunteers with badges or firearms nor allow them to perform law enforcement duties. Policies, budgets, training and other events will be made public on the KCSO website.
Per Idaho Code 31-2202, the Sheriff is charged with Preserving the peace. His ultimate job is to protect the citizens of his county to include life, property and civil rights. The Rule of Law shall be always maintained with zero tolerance for anyone participating in illegal, non-protected actions to include rioting, looting, arson/burning, property destruction, assault and murder. This can be accomplished by working with all local county law enforcement to ensure peace is maintained throughout the county.
As Americans, we choose our representatives from among us. All men and women are equal in worth under God. All men and women who hold elected offices are accountable to their local community. It is The People who consent to electing their representatives. As Sheriff, I will maintain transparency, impartiality, respect, and dignity for all citizens. As I uphold the law, I will be accountable to the people of this community not to a political party, religion or special interest. I will always do what I believe is right for The People and I welcome their support in representing them to provide equal protection under the law.
