I hope to undue much of the damage done to health care by the Republican majority, primarily the short-sighted anti-abortion legislation that is driving Doctors out of our state and placing all Idaho women in danger due to lack of providers for even routine OBGYN care. I hope to participate in full funding of Public Education as mandated in the Idaho Constitution. I would like to advocate for more local control. The Republican majority has removed the ability of municipalities to set a minimum wage or impose limits on rent increases, or even restrict the ability of landlords to charge exorbitant application fees to prospective tenants. I think the legislature should allow Mayors and Managers to do their jobs.
I have experience in the construction business, journalism, and the military. I have a degree in Communication/Journalism from Boise State University. My training in communication and journalism helps me to recognize good sources for information. My University studies have taught me the value of the scientific method and recognizing truth over fiction. My Marine Corps training reinforces my allegiance to the Constitution of the United States. And my years in the construction have taught me the value of good common sense. My decisions in the legislature will be based on established knowledge. I will not be making decisions based on the opinions of televangelists, political pundits, professional swindlers, or corporate overlords.
Idaho has become known as a very inhospitable place for women, for LGBTQ persons, and for minorities. I plan to work to erase that image by promoting equality and opportunity instead of division, disrespect, and patriarchal dominance. Idaho is on track to become a pariah state, known more for intolerance than opportunity. So much damage has been done to our state's economy by the institutionalized inequality espoused by the Republican majority. If Idaho is going to provide the jobs of tomorrow for Idaho's children, we must reverse this trend to let the world know that Idaho is open for business and welcomes all comers with open arms, supports the growth and success of their children, and provides adequate health care for the entire family.
Idaho's anti-abortion law should be repealed. If that is not possible, then it must be altered to address the real needs of Idaho women and their families. Criminalizing the practice of medicine is in itself a criminal act. The legislative majority is attempting to practice medicine without a license. In every instance regarding health care I will accept and rely on the advice and testimony of Medical Professionals, and not the advice and testimony of clergy or "faith based" lay persons.
My opponent is one of the least savory members of the Republican majority in the Idaho House. He legislates with a patriarchal view of the world that places all Idahoans in danger through misguided health care policy. I don't pretend to be an expert on health care, but my decisions will be guided by a mission to provide the best care for all Idahoans possible.
