Your Experience/Qualifications Since attending and graduating from the UO I’ve been in Eugene. I've worked for academic libraries and served on boards and commissions in Eugene and Lane County. I value the principles of “life-long learning," consultation, and compromise. With those I’ve been able to achieve results and solve problems serving on the National League of Cities Board of Directors, a Federal Communications Commission advisory committee, the Eugene City Council, and now the state Legislature.

Lack of access to health care, both primary and urgent, is fast becoming a serious concern in my community and around the state. I will press for more accountability and oversight of the businesses that provide health care and health care insurance and prescription drug benefits, building on the regulatory improvements and investments I passed in 2024. I will work especially on problems introduced by corporate medicine controlled by out-of-state investors and entities organizing business to increase profits by squeezing pharmacies and medical offices and keeping patients from getting timely and appropriate care. We must work on better ways to get compassionate and appropriate care to patients, or patients to health care providers.
1-Provide funding for children’s physical and mental well-being and other factors that contribute to student success. Children who are hungry or without secure housing face enormous challenges. 2-Fund programs to reduce behavioral problems that disrupt classrooms and introduce toxic stress for teachers and school employees. 3-Follow through on my bills updating quality measures to include school climate factors as well as testing, and cut testing that doesn't really help students to succeed.
We can address income inequality and generational wealth through different policy and budget actions. For example, shaping specific programs, services, and statutes to ensure opportunity to succeed. In education, opportunity starts with early learning and K-12, and continues with apprenticeships, internships, and college affordability. In employment, opportunity spans recruiting and job application and continues through hiring and promotion and entrepreneurial activity. Oregon’s tax structure is a factor as well. Oregon passed the Child Tax Credit when the federal credit had expired. We must encourage Oregon’s many eligible workers to file a tax return, even when they don't owe any taxes, to get the Earned Income Tax Credit.
