My experience has prepared me well as I have been a County Commissioner for three and a half years a Magistrate Judge, Tribal Judge and also an Officer for the state. So I have over 37 years in state, local and tribal government. I have been through more than a half dozen leadership courses with the Department of Public Safety. I have had to look at and deal with budgets, personnel and the occasional irate unhappy customer who thought they were treated unfairly. I have learned that state, local or tribal government does not work at the speed of light and that policy must be followed for things to flow.
The biggest is our local hospital, then our county bridges are very deteriorated and some impassable. Our infrastructure to build anything needs updating and we need housing. We can not bring jobs unless we create and have a good work force. We also need some type of industry to create jobs.
I am currently addressing them by working with our local state legislators on funding for our hospital. Working with our tribal, state and federal partners on funding and right of way for bridges in our county. I have started more joint work sessions with our city leaders to work on infrastructure for both the city and the county. currently working on a public private partnership with a local land owner to develop their property. Am working with our local economic development business to find the best industry to bring in for the area as well as with our local collage to help provide training courses as needed.
The county currently attends out reach with our local economic development. We travel at times to IMTS ( International Management Transportation Show) to show case our area and the opportunities that we can provide them.
My area is in line to receive water from the Gallup/Navajo water project which will service our surrounding community by 2029. In the meantime our city leaders are currently working to fix the wells that they have. We are also looking at any businesses that use little to no water or use recirculated water.
