Training and Experience I am a political outsider with experience in the nonprofit field
Volunteer/Community Service Farm animal sanctuaries - volunteer grant writer 2020-present, Indivisible Appalachian Ohio board member 2022-2023, Southeast Ohio Rainbow Alliance board member 2022-2023, Appalachian Peace and Justice Network 2023
My top priorities are food and housing insecurity. To address these issues I would introduce legislation to make school lunches free for all children, increase funding for grant programs that provide funding to organizations seeking to end food insecurity, and fund a program that provides SNAP recipients additional funds that can be spent at local farmers markets. I would also seek to introduce a "pay to stay" law wherein tenants facing eviction could stay until the end of their lease and not have an eviction on their record if they are able to pay all rent and fees due before the court hearing. I would create tax incentives and grants to spur office to housing conversion and accessory dwelling units.
I support the Citizens not Politicians ballot initiative. I oppose HB456 that makes voting more difficult for many citizens. I am grateful that Ohioans turned out to vote no on Issue One in the August special election in 2023.
Grants, low interest loans, and tax incentives can aid in the creation of jobs. Programs such as the one I would like to create that provides SNAP recipients additional funds to spend at farmers markets allows local farmers to expand their businesses. Programs that provide tax incentives and grants to complete office to housing conversions and build accessory dwelling units also create construction jobs. Additionally, creating accessory dwelling units provides additional income to the home owners. I would also increase funding for infrastructure and programs that help people build skills for employment.
First and foremost I want to see our schools be somewhere our children are safe and they and their parents don't have to worry every day. I am pro responsible gun ownership, but I am also pro common sense gun reform. I oppose SB83. I stand with the union and educator's right to strike. I support programs of diversity, equity, and inclusion. I would like to see community college be free for low income families. 13.4% of Ohioans live in poverty, but in my district 16.7% of the constituents live in poverty. This would also increase enrollment at these community colleges when we are seeing a decrease in enrollment nationally.
I believe that our local governments are incredibly important and is where our voices can be heard the most loudly.
Ohioans should not be rationing their life saving medication or choosing between eating and paying rent or healthcare. We are seeing a medical debt crisis with more than 40% of Ohioans seeing the credit scores lowered due to medical debt and nearly 48% have depleted their savings in order to cover medical expenses. It is clear our healthcare system needs reformed.
I love living in a rural area with such easy access to nature. I believe Southeast Ohio is one of the most beautiful places on earth and I want to protect our natural beauty. Sustainable energy is the way of the future and by investing in sustainable energy we can also create jobs while protecting our planet, lowering utility costs, and keeping our air and water ways clean. We all deserve to be able to easily breathe the air and consume our tap water without having to worry about negative health outcomes.
Ohio law does not currently include sexual orientation or gender identity as a protected class. This leaves LGBTQ+ Ohioans at risk and living in fear or hiding who they are. While the Ohio Fairness Act was gaining momentum prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have not seen it reintroduced in the current General Assembly. No one should be fired from their job, or be denied housing, denied access o the appropriate bathroom, or denied access to public spaces based on who they are.
