I hope to bring a wide range of experiences and qualifications. I graduated from University High, class of 92, where I learned the importance of diversity and challenging myself. From there, I served in the U.S. Army, where service, honor and integrity were paramount. Having been too injured to reenlist as planned, I returned home. There was a time when I depended on some of the social services available to help raise a family and I understand the importance of ensuring there is always help for families in need. From a dishwasher to a vice president of a marketing firm, digging ditches to a high school referee... I'll step up and do what is needed. Finally, as an active member of my church, I will bring empathy, perseverance and faith.
Gun violence is something every level of society can work towards reducing. Taking a broad approach and addressing each aspect from education and safety to law enforcement, mental health and trauma treatment is my recommendation. Gun violence in McLean County is largely attributed to suicide. In this instance the gun itself has little to do with the underlining problem. We, as a County Board, can continue to support the Health and Human Services Department by assisting communities and families.
George Washington, in his farewell address, spent a large portion of his speech warning us of the “spirit of party”. To summarize, he foretold of the potential traps and demise of the United States stating, “the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.” In view of this, I have spent my life being open-minded and supporting anyone willing to debate the facts and look for the common good. To know me is to know that I question everything, seek reason and am willing to change my stance when presented with a well formulated debate. I would adhere to these ideals, assist others to see this, and come together in compromise where possible.
Economic opportunity
Use of taxpayer monies
Access to affordable housing
Curbing gun violence in our community
I realize we in McLean County are rife with large opportunities, Rivian, State Farm, the Universities, etc. But, looking to be a representative for the 3rd District, I pose this question, what economic opportunities has the County Board assisted in the outlying communities? How has McLean, Danvers, Minier, Shirley, or Stanford directly been addressed and developed? Could we do something to tackle affordable housing by assisting the rural areas of the 3rd District and in turn, present opportunities to those communities and small businesses? I’d like to think so and I’d like to make that happen as your County Board Representative.
