I worked ten years for the IL General Assembly and 6 years in policy at the IL Department of Corrections. I am not worried about tackling tough issues and I know how to work collaboratively with administration, outside partners and across the party line to get things done. This is exactly what we need to work collaboratively to address housing and mental health issues in McLean County.
Bloomington has started more community policing which is one way to address and curb violence and crime. At the county level we have had issues with just getting adequate staffing in the Sheriffs department and at the county jail. Training and adequate staffing levels will help them do their job which is one side of the challenge in addressing violence. The other half is addressing the mental health needs of everyone across the county which is a much larger lift to get adequately addressed.
I believe if you pay attention to the county board you will really see that 90% of what they do is non partisan. The other ten percent is fully partisan but more a different idea of how we address issues. For a long time in this county we had a GOP super majority on the county board and no one thought what they did was partisan. Now that we are a ten to ten split we see more people referring to what we do as partisan. Maybe that is just the times we live in. We have made great strides in the last few years: non-partisan maps, pay equity for county employees, infrastructure improvements, and commitment to renewable energy to name a few.
1. Access to affordable housing: work with the Regional Planning Commission, Normal and Bloomington on implementing their plan as well as working with State government to get additional resources to address it. 2. Economic opportunity 3. Use of Taxpayer monies 4. Curbing gun violence
