State Representative District 43
Together, the House of Representatives and the Senate constitute the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA). The General Assembly enacts legislation dealing with state appropriations and finance, public welfare, the environment, public works, housing, education, civil and criminal laws, and other matters. The Senate tries all impeachments of executive and judicial branch officials. In Connecticut, members of the state’s legislative body, the General Assembly, must be at least eighteen years old and reside in the district they represent. Senate and House members serve two-year terms. Candidates were asked to respond to questions developed by local Leagues of Women Voters (LWV). Candidates enter their replies directly into Vote411, and replies are not edited by the LWV.This is the link to the CGA website: https://www.cga.ct.gov/To view sample ballots go to this website:- https://portal.ct.gov/sots/election-services/town-ballots/2026-november-town-election-ballots

I am a thirty year veteran high school and middle school teacher at Wheeler High School in North Stonington. I coached many sports teams including basketball, little league softball, cross country and tennis. I am currently a co-coach of the debate team at Wheeler and also run and organize a Model UN club that participates at UConn in their large-scale Model UN. While I don't have governmental experience, I have taught a civics class at Wheeler High School
My top priority is to protect citizen's Fourth Amendment rights that are presently being challenged at the federal and state level. I would co-sponsor or write a bill that would ban the use of surveillance technology, most notably Flock cameras. I would also set up an exploratory committee to research the use of these cameras to protect citizen's privacy rights.
Another top priority is to use the state apparatus to lower costs for the people of Connecticut. The prices of goods has outpaced wages and squeezed the 90%. I would look to regulate the energy companies price hikes and to draw attention to the Education Cost Sharing (ECS) formula to mitigate local property tax hikes.
The legislature started to reshape the public benefits charge but I think there's more opportunities there to alleviate some of the rising pressure on income. Also, I would like to revisit the Education Cost Sharing formula to make the state meet their stated obligations. I also think that holidays on taxes for some purchases and reducing or eliminating taxes on Social Security so people on fixed incomes have a little more in their pocket.
I believe that energy costs are increasing the burden on Connecticut families and the legislature can look at ways to regulate the energy companies.
Lastly, by improving the health care system to create a Medicare for All system in Connecticut, reducing the cost on the consumer.
To subsidize the use of electric vehicles and investing in solar and wind energy. Connecticut has put together major environmental packages and these are a great start. But Connecticut must invest in its future, and in my district, climate concerns are real, as we hug the coastline and see firsthand the detrimental effects of climate change. Connecticut should also invest in innovation for clean energy to improve its efficiency and longevity.
Data center development is too destructive to the environment and will increase costs to the citizens in Connecticut without providing much benefit to Connecticut. For this reason, I am against constructing data centers in my district. They do not offer material benefit and only bring only cost to the district.
