VOTE411 Voter Guide

State Representative District 53

Together, the House of Representatives and the Senate constitute the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA). The General Assembly enacts legislation dealing with state appropriations and finance, public welfare, the environment, public works, housing, education, civil and criminal laws, and other matters. The Senate tries all impeachments of executive and judicial branch officials. In Connecticut, members of the state’s legislative body, the General Assembly, must be at least eighteen years old and reside in the district they represent. Senate and House members serve two-year terms. Candidates were asked to respond to questions developed by local Leagues of Women Voters (LWV). Candidates enter their replies directly into Vote411, and replies are not edited by the LWV.This is the link to the CGA website: https://www.cga.ct.gov/To view sample ballots go to this website:- https://portal.ct.gov/sots/election-services/town-ballots/2026-november-town-election-ballots

I am a financial analyst in the insurance industry. I've been in the field for over 30 years. I've also volunteered in several capacities including teaching faith formation for 17 years, photographer for the THS women's soccer team, and activities at my local senior centers. I served on the Eastern Highland Health District board for six years. I served on the Tolland Soccer board. I was elected to the Tolland Town Council for six years, including two years as Chairwoman. I am currently serving on the Manchester Community College Foundation board.
Affordability. This is a very broad topic. From local property taxes, to energy affordability, including education funding and state taxes. There are several policies I have proposed and enacted but there is a significant amount of work to still be done. Education funding is currently being worked on and fixing the fatally flawed formula to ensure ALL schools are receiving adequate reliable funding from the state is imperative. We have to have stronger special education policy and funding, if the state provides more money it will directly lower property taxes at the local level. I have put in legislation to review how senior citizens are taxes for property and have made several different policy suggestions to change those regulations.
Stable reliable education funding. Review the policies and funding for Special Education and where the funding should come from. Remove the legislation that is budget driven from the public benefits fees on electricity and put it in the existing budget. Enact stronger regulations around financial reporting for earmarks and non profit funding. Reduce ineffective programs at the state level to lower spending. Remove the tax on food, reduce the tax on fuel, enact some sort of tax on EV's so they're also paying their share of infrastructure costs. Lower the income tax for the middle class, remove all state income taxes from social security. Review and remove unfunded mandates that are excessive or not fulfilling their promise.
