I believe Utahns deserve a watchdog in the Auditor’s Office. I battled a 17-year incumbent because of my belief in that vision.

Our mission is to provide Utah taxpayers and government officials with an independent assessment of financial operation, statutory compliance, and performance management for state and local government.

We investigate thefts by government officials, working with prosecutors and recovering those funds. We work with state agencies to improve operational compliance and performance. We oversee that cities, counties, and school districts properly adopt their budgets and report their yearend spending. We run the financial transparency website: Transparent.utah.gov. We’ve even investigated and reported on abusive college fees practices at some Utah universities.
I will continue to champion accountability and transparency. We will continue to be impartial, shining a light and reporting what we see.

We have been working on an aggressive and innovative performance audit identifying where the meaning really goes in public education so stakeholder can better determine how well that money is spent.

Recently, we reported on problems with certain university fees. We are increasing our focus on spending in higher ed, bringing more accountability to students, parents, and taxpayers.

I will also sounding the clarion call for continuous improvement and financial accountability, both in my office and across the state.
I have a proven record of being a watchdog for the taxpayers. For the past 2 terms, I have been helping Utahns hold their government accountable.

Vote frugal. Vote John Dougall.
