My goal to to abolish the Barnstable County Government, as it collects nearly $33,000,000.00 each year, the Commissioners take nearly $20,000.00 per year for only 2 hours of work per week, by abolishment of County Government the 15 communities that make up Branstable County would receive back into their General Town fund nearly $15,000,000.00, and the Courthouse would be absorbed into the Commonwealth real properties, and maintained by the Commonwealth like many other of the Counties in MA.
2006-2008 -Elected Wellfleet Representative for the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates , 2008 - 2016 Elected Barnstable County Commissioner, re-elected 2012. I have a proven record of leadership, vision and good fiscal policy. Barnstable County was established to deal with the regional issues that transcend the existing boundaries of the 15 municipalities. I know the job and understand how it functions & how to govern openly and collaboratively. Experience matters.
Regional Public Health system, linking our community health centers,Town departments of public health and build teams that know the people in their communities. Open Cape, Provide broadband to our most remote areas of the Outer Cape has been amplified by Covid. Climate Change The improvement in our air quality and water was significant during the global shutdown. Human activity has everything to do with our consumption and reliance on fossil fuels. Two months points to hope and urgency.
The Board of Commissioners is the executive branch. It has power few understand or grasp, even when sitting in the seat. I was able to move a lot of issues off the table into action and then progress. I understand how the County functions and the power of the office. I know the job and can start day one. I have learned that it takes time and effort to lead, build collaborations and have consensus on our path forward. I never forget that I represent the citizens and the trust of voters.
