Kentucky had serious problems before COVID bombarded us all. The pandemic is still ravishing our people and economy, adding to the dissention that so many were already feeling. We must reform. Tax reform, so that the middle class isn' t carrying the burden that the top 1% should share. We must reform labor laws and set a goal to offer essential workers livable wages and overturn the Right to Work legislation that smothers the power of the people. We must push for judicial reform and promote policies that protect and serve ALL people while weaving care ethic into the culture of policing.
We must focus efforts on keeping guns out of the hands of violent people and those deemed dangerous due to a lack of competence. 42% of mass shooters had domestic violence records. We must start protecting our women and children by reforming laws that govern rape, domestic violence, and abuse. The current laws do not equate justice. We must make felons of ALL convicted sexual predators and domestic abusers. We must tighten up the enforcement of gun laws and hold business owners accountable for all sales. We must ban gun conventions where many illegal gun sales are made. We must hold the gun owner accountable for the damage their property caused to life and liberty, this will encourage parents to lock up their firearms.
By providing people with the healthcare they need, the benefits of healthier, happier Kentuckians will balance out the economic investment. Also, allowing birthing centers to accept state-funded plans would save money. With research I am sure we can fine multiple ways to cur administration costs.
We must pass laws prohibiting employers asking about previous wages. We must raise minimum wage. We look at child care as infrastructure. We must do a better job at supporting survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse.
The compromise that the Secretary of State and the Governor reached is a wonderful example of bipartisan action in favor of the people. We need to make the process for felons to regain their rights cheaper and more accessible.
