Biographical Information

Utah continues to be one of only 11 states with no limit on the amount of money an individual can contribute to a political campaign, and one of only 5 states with no limits on what a corporation can contribute. Do you favor any limits on donations to political campaigns? Why or why not?

What is the legislature’s role in addressing the homeless problem and assuring affordable housing for the working poor?

Not all school districts are able to provide the same resources for their students. How should we support school districts with lesser ability (primarily because of lower property values) to raise revenue?

The Utah State Constitution reads, in part, "Both male and female citizens of this State shall enjoy equally all civil, political and religious rights and privileges." The Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads, “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” Should Utah ratify the ERA which expresses the same view as the Utah Constitution? Explain your position.

I think that campaign contribution reform is much needed. There should be limits on how much a candidate takes in and who that money comes from. Money should not be the deciding factor or even a determining factor on a candidate's race.
Sadly we have seen an uptake in our homeless community in Salt Lake County and it seems one of the common denominators is mental illness. We need more resources for these individuals and that is where the legislature comes in. Creating more programs, state funded detox and rehab beds and safe places. Training and hiring more mental health professionals. Elected officials should be in tune with their communities and in tune with their ongoing needs.
2020 has been the year that has really exposed the differences in school districts. Students shouldn’t receive less because they reside in an area with lower property values. There has to be a way that this can be equalized. We must channel more money to these school districts that are in need.
It is long overdue that Utah ratify the ERA. We as a state have one of the biggest gender pay gaps. We must pass the ERA and ensure that gender equity is more of a reality for all Utahns.
