1. Lack of Healthcare-Over half a million Tennesseans are underinsured or have no insurance at all. Millions more struggle with Medical costs and complex insurance plans designed to take advantage of the customer above all else. Accepting FREE Federal dollars by expanding medicaid is the least our leaders could do in the middle of a pandemic. 2. Wage Issues-Wages in Tennessee are among the lowest in the nation. Over the last 40 years, the average worker's wages have not been able to keep up with the exploding cost of living that has occurred. 3. Environmental Issues-The people deserve to breath clean air and drink clean water. Unfortunately, Polluters own this state and TDEC has been gutted. Need more enforcement of existing laws.
The State failed from the very beginning to take this pandemic seriously. So many lives could have been saved if the State had mandated masks in public spaces and set up a comprehensive plan for testing and tracing months ago. Our State legislature met three times this year but failed to pass any meaningful legislature that would help Tennesseans who are struggling during this difficult time period. They could have tried to help struggling small businesses instead of multinational corporations who spend nothing in taxes. They could have increased staffing and funding to the badly under-funded unemployment compensation fund, provided PPE for all of our frontline healthcare workers, or provided guaranteed paid sick leave for all workers.
I am running because I want to see a BIG change in Nashville and in Rutherford County. For years, our State leaders have ignored the needs of the people. Tennesseans continue to struggle with low wages and ever increasing costs of living including in healthcare, housing, and higher education. Instead of focusing on solutions to these problems, our state legislators have been busy passing legislature that is either designed to nullify an existing city or county law, designed to target vulnerable populations, or legislature that runs counter to existing Federal law, meaning it will be challenged in court and tax payers will be on the hook for the lawyers fees and courts costs. None of this is fiscally conservative nor does it help Tennesseans
