Montana is known as “The last best place”, but sadly this is being threatened. Montana's public lands and natural resources are under constant attack. We need to ensure that we are good stewards of our lands and resources to provide a healthy and prosperous Montana for future generations. I will stand and fight for any legislation that aims to protect our lands and resources from out of state corporate interests that want to privatize our lands and natural resources for profit.
I will defend and support legislation with effective and comprehensive solutions to combat climate change as well as supporting the development of a climate change-related economy. There is no one size fits all solution to climate change and it is important that Democrats and Republicans work together to protect our planet. We should provide incentives to businesses who invest in green technology.
It is appaling that women make 73 Cents for every dollar a man makes. I will support any legislation that calls for equal pay. I will speak and vote against any legislation which infringes upon the rights of women. I will facilitate a working relationship between different state agencies to stop human trafficking, especially on our reservations. The number of missing and murdered indigenous woman is a great concern to me and more has to be done. I will work with the tribes to ensure everything is being done to protect native women.
Our education system is failing future generations in Montana. We have some of the best and brightest educators in the country yet they are leaving the profession to take better-paying jobs elsewhere. It is crucial that we keep good teachers in Montana's schools. although this is an issue across the state, it is particularly impacting our rural communities. Talking to teachers in our community, I am hearing the same frustrations. We are neglecting to give them the resources they need to be effective. I will stand with any piece of legislation that ensures delivering on promises we made to our kids to give the best education by providing much-needed funding and resources. We need to pass legislation that increases funding for PUBLIC schools.
First and foremost, we need to fight for quality healthcare for all Montanans. Healthcare should not be a burden on the backs of everyday Montanans. I have worked in several legislative cycles to expand healthcare for 75,000 Montanans and will continue this fight. Secondly, we need to provide Montanans, particularly the vulnerable, with access to quality healthcare. Those living in rural areas should have access to the same quality of health care as those living in our cities. Lastly, we need to incentivize young individuals to become nurses. There is a nurse shortage across Montana and this is going to lead to major problems if it is not addressed.
