Montana is growing and we need to make sure that we are providing good jobs and career paths for our citizens. I want to make sure that we prioritize local solutions to enhance our manufacturing sector by investing in broadband, business parks, and infrastructure with State investment. We need to support our cities to make sure they grow strategically and responsibly while protecting our public lands and Montana way of life.
An exciting example is in Columbia Falls with the manufacturing of new “greener” industrial timber materials for construction. As we look at the energy conversation we need to also look at how Montana can be a key player in the export of renewable energy and materials and maximize jobs for Montanans. Montana has for too long exported raw materials and we need to make sure we are creating opportunities for good paying jobs and careers for our workforce.
We need address systemic inequities in our schools and public health institutes, especially in Counties that are neighbors to our Tribal Nations. These inequities are documented and need to be addressed. We should advance legislation that State law that prohibits discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation and gender identity in public employment, private employment, housing, and provision of goods and services. I support passing a Montana Equity Act.
The State should find was build incentives for teachers work and stay in Montana Public Schools. This should be done with increased public school funding, housing incentives and tuition forgiveness. We should institute universal Pre-K in Montana as soon as possible.
I think we need to look to successes of grant programs like the Montana Healthcare Foundation and find ways to encourage community solutions and cooperation. We need to make sure to invest in Tribal Healthcare immediately and make sure our current systems are equitable. I will defend the current expansion of Medicaid in Montana because it is covering Montanans who are most in need. As we address the current Covid-19 Health event we need to invest in long term Public Health solutions so that we don't end up back in a crisis like this ever again.
