I'm an attorney and received my law degree at Georgetown University Law. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. I served as Mayor of Fall River from 1991 to 1996, and was a Fall River City Councilor from 1982 to 1991. Since 2011, I have been a member of the Bristol County Commission and served ex officio in that position as one of the Trustees of the Bristol County Agricultural High School. I've been married for 36 years to Judith Mitchell and have a daughter, Courtney.
The challenge is the response to COVID, particularly as to the Bristol County Agricultural High School (BCAHS), which faces critical decisions re whether to have in-person class or remote in the coming school year. We've done well handling these problems and managed to provide valuable remote instructions. We are also in the midst of a $110 million school expansion and remodeling, which includes a new Science/Tech Bldg. and a new Student Commons. I am Chairman of the Committee.
I and my fellow Commissioners and the Board of Trustees of Bristol Agricultural High School, have taken a limited and lesser-known level of government and turned it to the advantage of the citizens of Bristol County. We have managed a tight budget and have reduced health insurance costs for employees and pensioners. I am President of the school's Foundation which has raised over $100K over the past 3 years to aid students with expenses outside of the ordinary school budget.
