I graduated from LSU majoring in Elementary Education. After college, I was an elementary teacher (specifically title I and ESL schools). After teaching, I moved into human resources which has prepared me to make recommendations/decisions on policies, budgets, and staffing. I have stayed involved in Katy ISD through hundreds of hours of volunteering and participating in district committees. My wife is an elementary teacher in the district and I have three children who attend Katy ISD schools.
• Work to support student safety with recommendations from our public safety officials • Be an active part of safety meetings and learn the current safety response along with tailoring it to each individual campus. • Give proper training to teachers and staff as to what they can expect in an emergency situation and where they can find the appropriate guidelines for all emergency drills.
• I am an involved individual who supports community events. I will be active in fielding questions, answering them and/or consulting with subject matter experts, and communicating with school officials. • Clear expectations and shared accountability for the school and community partners • Communication plan to share progress and challenges of the school district • Ongoing comprehensive professional development for all school leaders, staff, and community partners • Whole community engagement is key

I have served and advocated for the educational needs of children over a decade while serving in PTAs and volunteering in a variety of communities during my military career. I have served on multiple schools' PTA boards, including Katy Council. I attended Leadership Katy, learning how our district operates. I served on the 2017 Community Bond Advisory Committee. Raising 4 children has also led to a greater understanding concerning Special Education, 504 services, and G/T programs.
In today's environment, this is a much more complex answer. 1) I believe we need to gather the opinions of our students regarding what makes them feel safe and/or unsafe at school. Without this key piece of data, we are effectively unable to ensure we are meeting their needs. 2) Ensure that we keep programs such as Speak Up, which allows anonymous reporting to continue. Our students must know that they can report issues without fear of retribution. 3) Collaboration is key. A trustee must join forces with all the systems and agencies in our local area that also work to ensure the safety of all children. I intend to be an advocate for collaboration within our community because discrimination, violence, and harassment are not caused by one element and are not limited to one environment.
I would provide greater transparency, specifically by bringing information directly to the public, responding with clarity that reflects the needs and goals of our community. This can be done via social media, district-wide meetings/town halls, and PTA meetings as starting places. I believe we should have more than one board meeting a month, which will allow more individuals the opportunity to reach out to members of our school board via public comments. I also support an increase in the time allotted to speakers and a change in the rule that allows public comments on any items related to school district business, not limited to only agenda items, when they bring items to the attention of the school board.
1. Support expanded career training education to meet the needs of students & future workforce. Work to build better surveys for students, post responses, and develop where needed. 2. Provide more mental health services for students to meet the demand created by anxiety, stress, bullying, depression, eating disorders, drug & alcohol abuse, & sleep deprivation. 3. Oversee the creation of a task force of community leaders to perform a self-evaluation our district needs concerning the issue of equity across our district. Work with the team & those being adversely affected to forge a path ahead to create solutions for the students, educators & staff. 4. Encourage expanding the supports directed at the youngest students with disabilities, which will place more learners on a path toward academic success. I support the continued professional & curriculum development within special education.
