Winslow School District - Unexpired Term

An elected school board member serves a three-year term. The school board represents the concerns of citizens, taxpayers and parents to the school administrators, and represents the needs of the students and school district to citizens, taxpayers and parents. The school board does not operate the district on a day-to-day basis; that is the job of the superintendent (the district’s chief executive). Rather, the school board sets policies, goals and objectives for the district, and holds the superintendent responsible for implementing those policies and goals. I believe in serving our community. As an active community member and parent, our school’s safety and academic success are vital and personal to me. My six years of Executive level Marketing experience, seven yrs. of College Administration experience, time as a school HSA president, and my volunteerism as a Girl Scout Leader allowed me to gain valuable leadership abilities and robust business skills that will be a positive addition to our Board. My goal is to help our schools continue a pathway towards academic achievement, while fostering greater parental involvement and community support. I’ll place an emphasis on clarity of written policies, greater transparency between the Board and community and a focus on the positive in our schools.

I believe that standardized testing should be only one piece of an overall evaluation and teaching process. Ongoing teacher assessments, and movement towards standards-based testing can help evaluate a more holistic student and school progress pathway. Until the time we see the state regulations change regarding standardized testing structure and graduation requirements, our approach for raising test scores should be multi- faceted and include areas such as test score & data analysis, and a continued focus on fostering strong curriculum.

Our district has made vast improvements in safety infrastructure with the addition of secure vestibules in our schools. We need to continue to ensure that with other areas ( PA systems, communications, transparency with community when appropriate) are also a priority, and that we put a greater emphasis on bus behavior/ safety as well. Greater parental education of procedures and school safety practices that are in place can help reinforce a " see something - say something" culture which is critical in today's climate.
