One of the elements that makes Newtown special is its historic charm, and it is important to me to help safeguard that. At present we are facing proposed property developments, and I will work with our engineer and solicitor to ensure that proper rules and procedures are followed and that input from the Planning Commission and HARB is heard. While recognizing property owners’ rights, it is also particularly important that changes support the overall community and are in its benefit. Another issue facing us is the updating of the Comprehensive Plan. The plan lays out our vision and values, and is a roadmap for future activity and improvements. In the coming year, residents will be receiving a survey, and will be welcomed into the process to give their ideas and direction as we work with the Planning Commission and the County. It is important to me to listen to the community and support community engagement as we steer the Plan in a direction that will be best for our Borough.
I have lived in the Borough of Newtown since 1999, and it is very important to me to support and improve with careful stewardship the Borough and community I love. I see this position as way to serve our community by helping to improve areas that would benefit from betterment and to maintain what we cherish about our unique and welcoming town.
Over the last five and a half years on Newtown Borough Council, I have acted as liaison for the Recreation Board, Zoning Hearing Board, Shade Tree Commission, Environmental Advisory Council, Traffic Committee, and Planning Commission, and have been on the Budget and Finance Committee since 2018. This experience has helped me understand the complexities of the Borough, the issues it faces, and the ongoing work required. Prior to being a member of Borough Council, my experiences as a member of the Newtown Recreation Board, as a volunteer at Goodnoe Elementary, and as a Girl Scout troop leader have allowed me to participate in growing community connections and spirit. To all this, I have brought my educational experience and subsequent work with adolescents in residential treatment, as it has helped me with teamwork, listening, and with understanding and connecting with others.
