Neptune City Borough Council {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

BOROUGH COUNCIL – Full Term-Vote for TwoNeptune City is governed under the Borough form of New Jersey municipal government. The governing body consists of a Mayor and a Borough Council comprising six council members, with all positions elected at-large on a partisan basis as part of the November general election. A Mayor is elected directly by the voters to a four-year term of office. The Borough Council consists of six members elected to serve three-year terms on a staggered basis, with two seats coming up for election each year in a three-year cycle. The Borough form of government used by Neptune City is a "weak mayor / strong council" government in which council members act as the legislative body with the mayor presiding at meetings and voting only in the event of a tie. The mayor can veto ordinances subject to an override by a two-thirds majority vote of the council. The mayor makes committee and liaison assignments for council members, and most appointments are made by the mayor with the advice and consent of the council.

Neptune City has experienced empty storefronts for some time now. Residents also face increased tax assessments yearly. While these two issues may seem separate, they are connected and can be addressed with a creative solution. Shop Local is a program designed to benefit local businesses and residents alike. Participating businesses contribute a small amount of sales to Shop Local cardholding residents, and those residents benefit from a tax rebate annually. I hope this program will not only drive patrons to our existing businesses, but incentivize new stores to open in Neptune City, while helping residents realize a tax credit.
As a candidate for borough council, I believe I am qualified due to my education, professional skill sets, and volunteer experience. I am a graduate of Monmouth University. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and hold a Bachelors degree in Communications. As an insurance professional, I analyze risk and make tough decisions daily. And as a Neptune City resident, I’m a proud founding member of our Green Team and Special Events Committees.
Neptune City is a uniquely appointed town. Situated just a mile to the beach and adjacent to several shore towns, we are a real gem of the jersey shore. To really take advantage of this, I feel it’s imperative to connect us to our neighboring beach towns. As a council member, it will be a goal to reach out to our state and county officials to help us make this a reality. With state and county partnership, I believe we can create a viable bike and pedestrian path through Neptune City. This will allow all residents of our town to easily and safely access everything Neptune City and the jersey shore has to offer.
There are many great things about Neptune City however like anything, when it is done by one person or one group for an extended period, they can become lax or complacent. Because of that, I believe that the town operations need greater oversight and need to be audited to ensure it is running to the best benefit of the residents of Neptune City. Included in this is to implement Council bylaws, which do not exist and will ensure whomever sits on Council will maintain the same authority and follow the same processes for all town business. We also need a full review of our ordinances to ensure they are still applicable and relevant.
I have been married for 27 years and am a mother of three children. I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and am a Certified Payroll Professional, by the American Payroll Association. I have worked in corporate accounting for over 30 years and have managed budgets of over $4 billion dollars, so I am very comfortable in the financial arena. Locally to Neptune City, I was a Girl Scout troop leader for 6 years and was elected to the Board of Education for 5 years, which ended when I was elected to an unexpired term to a borough Council seat. I believe my family, community and business experience gives me the tools I need to be an asset to the Council of Neptune City.
Neptune City is located in a picturesque setting between the Atlantic Ocean and Shark River. We have beautiful and abundant park spaces for our residents, but they are under-utilized. Since the demographics of our town have changed, we need to change to keep up with current day needs. We should update the playground equipment and add lighting to our parks. We should setup a dog park for our canine friends and clean up the tennis courts for use. Then we should advertise what we have and stop being the best kept secret in Monmouth County.
