I, as Bellmawr Council President and Finance Chair, work tirelessly to provide tax payers with the most quality with the least municipal tax increase. I am proud to say that in the three years as finance chair the municipal tax increase has been at a total of only 1.5 cents. Unfortunately we must try to have the other variables such as school and county tighten their belts as well t.o present an overall increase of zero or a decrease. We must evaluate the infrastructure however and conduct long range plans so that residents can see through a transparent website, meetings, etc where all of the money is expended
Bellmawr is currently at a crossroad where the current mayor and council have been working diligently on long range plans to assure that the residents see the governing body as one which is transparent and open-minded to listen so that a proactive partnership and trust strengthens the total community where we support both the current and future needs of this community where new businesses and residents want to make this municipality their home now and forever.
As a retired superintendent of schools I am very familiar with both consolidation and shared services. Just consolidating is not an answer and more often than not actually costs the schools or communities additional money. Consolidating services by sharing resources absolutely is a benefit to both Bellmawr and surrounding communities. Bellmawr has been proactive with shared services through the leadership of Pubic Works superintendent, Joe Ciano, who has saved Bellmawr many dollars and has a long range plan that is monitored regularly to evaluate both the costs of providing services and accessing services where there is always a significant profit for the Borough of Bellmawr
It is my feeling that investors are attracted to a community like Bellmawr if there is an opportunity to make money. They need to see that Bellmawr is financially solvent with a strong potential for growth. A transport connection is essential such as our access to NJ Turnpike, Rt. 295, Rt. 42 and access to Philadelphia, Jersey Shore, etc. in a few minutes. We need to determine and set targets for the type of person/business that will serve both the residents and community in a positive manner while attracting new home owners. Finally, economic development is paramount to the promotion of growth in Bellmawr, while we must develop a strategy for cultural wellbeing with sustainable growth to remain strong and vibrant.
