What are the major challenges facing the community/district and how would you propose to address them if elected?

What qualifies you for this position, both personally and professionally?

What factors are critical to the quality of life/education in your community and what would you do to improve or preserve them?

Continuing to promote student achievement - we have put in programs to provide our students with the tools necessary to succeed in high school and post-secondary. We will also continue to use current technology and work with other elementary districts and the high school to assure our students are prepared for the transition from BES to high school and beyond.

We have aging buildings and facilities and we are looking at ways to upgrade the facilities in a fiscally responsible way that will promote a safe and healthy environment for our students. We are also looking to work with the Borough to support the school.
I am an attorney practicing education law and have represented and advised school districts for the last 35 years in my practice. I have been a member of the Belmar Board of Education for 20 years and have been the Board President for over 5 years. My two daughters went through the Belmar Elementary School and Manasquan High School I am also very active with the New Jersey School Boards Association and have served on various committees for that state organization. I have achieved the NJSBA designation of Certified Board Member, Master Board Member and Certified Board Leader through training and participation in NJSBA events.
One of the best features of our community is the diversity which allows persons of all backgrounds to work together towards the success of the borough as a whole and the school community specifically. In addition, we have a close knit school community with caring and talented staff and administrators who are able to instill in our students a sense of security and well-being. As we embark on the process of developing a strategic plan for the district for the next 5 years, it will be important to get input from all of our stakeholders to assure we continue to meet the needs of the community and our students as we establish long range goals for the future.
Our aging building needs repair. I'm concerned that Belmar's PILOT program, which allows developers to build multi-unit buildings without paying taxes to the school, will inadvertently sour the community on paying for our facility needs. Each property owner should pay their fair share to the public school, and I'm devoted to making sure that happens.
My years experience on the board and my volunteer work for the town of Belmar community.
I'm thrilled to live in a diverse town that is reflected in the students at Belmar Elementary. The life lessons my kids receive through the culture of Belmar school is immeasurable. I'm devoted to preserving the harmonious relationship we have. Another important factor is just why the children show up every day - a good education. My goal and number one priority is maintaining teachers and administrators who create and enforce high student achievement standards.
