Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Catoctin District

Loudoun County Board of Supervisors are elected to a four year term. Loudoun County, Virginia is divided into eight magisterial districts: Algonkian, Ashburn, Blue Ridge, Broad Run, Catoctin, Dulles, Leesburg, and Sterling. The magisterial districts each elect one supervisor to the Board of Supervisors which governs Loudoun County. There is also a Chair elected by the county at-large, bringing total Board membership to 9. A Vice-Chair is selected by the Board from amongst its membership. The Board of Supervisors sets county policies, adopts ordinances, appropriates funds, approves land rezonings and special exceptions to the zoning ordinance, and carries out other responsibilities set forth by the State Code. The Board appoints a County Administrator, who manages county operations; the Planning Commission, which serves in an advisory capacity on land use issues; and various other boards and commissions. The Board also appoints the County Attorney. The Board of Supervisors acts within the limits set forth by the Virginia General Assembly.

Experience My wife Molly and I have been full-time farmers at Georges Mill Farm near Lovettsville since 2013. Our two young kids are the 9th generation of our family to live on our farm and we would like to pass it onto them one day, but they won't be able to farm it if rural Loudoun isn't rural anymore.

Maintaining our rural character and quality of life. Keeping rural Loudoun rural is the #1 issue for all of Loudoun, because if rural Loudoun is developed like the rest of Loudoun it will bankrupt the county. All of our biggest issues like high taxes, traffic, and overcrowded schools are driven by our extreme rate of housing growth. We are growing too fast and suffering the consequences. We should not be adding housing density anywhere, especially not to rural Loudoun. Our Board of Supervisors recently took a step in the opposite direction, coming together in bipartisan fashion to move the Rural Area/Transition Area boundary for the first time since there has been a boundary. We are headed in the wrong direction, but with the right leadership and an active and engaged citizenry we can keep rural Loudoun rural. The solution is not complicated. Maintain the rural area boundary and employ the farm-friendly policies that many of our neighboring counties are currently putting to use.
