The mission of the Manville School District, in partnership with the entire Manville community, is to provide our students with a student-centered and nurturing educational environment focused upon the academic expectations as identified by the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, and the development of the child as a life-long learner, and a respectful contributing member of a democratic society. A member of the Manville Borough School District Board of Education is elected to a term of three years.

I hold a BA in Music Education from Montclair State University. I have worked as an Educator in both public and private schools in New Jersey for the past 17 years. Over the years I have worked as a Music Teacher, Instructional Assistant and Substitute. Being involved as an educator has given me a strong understanding of school policies, communication, curriculum and organization. In addition, I have owned my own business since 2011 where I create my own curriculum, managed finances and marketing. In my personal experience, I am comfortable with finances and marketing related to small business. I also have strong computer skills. I served as a volunteer for many organizations such as the VFW Auxiliary and the Parent Teacher Association for my children's schools. In these organizations, I have served lead roles such as President, Vice President and Secretary. In the past, I was a volunteer teacher for 4th Grade Religious Education. I have also served 1, 3-year term for the Manville Board of Education. I am educated and committed to serving my community with my experience and knowledge. These experiences make me an exceptional candidate for the Manville Board of Education.
Three of our biggest challenges are space, funding and curriculum.

Even though we shifted grades up, we are still tight on space. Prior to me being on the Board, the elementary school's media center was even broken up into rooms which was a huge loss to our youngest students. In addition, the lack of space has caused larger class sizes. There are not appropriate spaces for music, library, occupational therapy, speech, physical therapy, intervention classes and so on. We, as a board, need to make careful, feasible and sustainable plans to ensure current and future students have plenty of space to receive a well-rounded education.

We need to make sure our district continues to receive the funding that we need to enhance our programs and maintain our facilities. We must make financial decisions that have long-term benefits. We need to keep in mind our strategic plan. We need to make sure our decisions always benefit the academic success of the students and the safety of our buildings.

Our curriculum is another area which needs adjustments. We need to ensure we are at the standards of surrounding districts. As a board member, I strive to work on giving our students the best academic outcomes possible. This means carefully analyzing our programs, finding areas of weakness and working to create an enhanced curriculum that rises our students to the next level.
I believe our school district provides our students a civic education. From our elementary to our high school students, our teachers provide opportunities, lessons and discussions to help students understand what it's like to be a good citizen. During elections, teachers take time to explain voting process. Throughout social students and history classes they cover topics where they learn about laws and processes pertaining to our role as a citizen in our government. They also learn about various types of governments. It is important to provide these learning experiences so they can be productive, educated citizens. There can always be room for improvement. As a team, we will continue to look for ways to provide a top notch education.
Keeping students safe is a top priority to me! Students must BE and FEEL safe to learn. Keeping students safe in our schools ranges from having clean and well-maintained buildings to procedures and practices. There are many layers of student safety and they are all, equally important. As I board member, I have attended workshops and visited booths at our School Board Convention to learn about changes and new safety concepts. It is important to financially budget for these changes and continue to improve our physical safety along with our procedures and practices. I work with my Board Members and Administrative Team to make sure we stay up-to-date with safety trends. I also listen to our public and advocate their ideas and needs.
