A lot of schools district have not been= able to recruit enough teachers to fill all positions with certified teachers.. Last year the Wichita district had to start the school year with 80 positions filled by long term substitutes . What do you think can be done to perhaps help solve this problem?

Education two years college
Community/Public Service City council for two years, school board four years
success is the larger percentage of graduates with more than the high school diploma. Being able to provide more than just the basic needs to graduate but also graduate with certificates in some areas and college credits to get them started. Changes that need to be made are to incorporate more of the social workers into the schools to let the teachers do what they do and love most, teach. We are having way too many problems with students that are problems best handles by Social Workers. Let the teachers teach.
you will have to ask those involved in the Wichita school district. Not all school districts have this problem.
Being involved with the community as a hole to help better the educational process for the students, parents and teachers. As a school board member you can guide the ship but you have to have the qualified people in place to help direct to make it successful. I am only one of the members of the board and we all bring something different and a different perspective to the board. We don't always agree but we do have to pull together to get thing to happen.
The non-public already have an advantage over public schools in the respect they do recruit students that will help them accomplish there goals. We all make choices in life that we hope make us a better person, but those choices have other reactions to them. If a parent chooses to go to a non-public they have to know that there will be added expenses to them. Transportation, fees and tuition. It is the parents choice.
Yet to be seen. Pleased that the case did not close but remained open to be sure that the State does fulfill it's promise to the students.
Continue offering opportunities for different directions for the future. We are now learning that the college degree is not required for all jobs and some of those without that degree pay as much or more than some of the degreed positions. Continue to be a leader in the educational world by adding more of the types of education for the future, maybe in the alternative energy fields.
These are ever changing and are always under review. Teacher, parents and students are always going to be a step ahead in trying to change policies an practices, we as a board just have to be able to keep up with them and make the changes as we see are best for all, no for just a few.
