Qualifications for office I am a concerned citizen who wants to see Penn Hills grow and attract families to the municipality. Healthy Public Schools are fundamental to attracting people to the municipality. I have experience in both Public and Private School. I am an Awardee of an Innovative Educator Award. My higher education has centered around schools and education policy.

Completing the recovery from the debt crisis and finding out the specifics surrounding it. This needs to be completed with the goal of not harming the student's education and not putting excessive burdens on taxpayers. Also, look at accountability surrounding it.

I would like to look closely at the Charter School situation. I hear both positive and negative things surrounding the topic. It seems like an area that voters would like the Board to look into.

I want to work to find innovative ways to provide a way for parents, teachers and other stakeholders to work together to improve the experiences of our students.
I believe that the beauty of Penn Hills is its diverse make up of many different ethnicities, races, economic levels, ages, and religions. Understanding the needs of all plays a key role in maintaining a strong and fair education system. In the context of being a member of the School Board, I value this diversity and want to work collaboratively with other members to create policy that promotes curriculum, staff and teacher training, and creates guidelines that ensure social and racial justice.
Encouraging early learning is a place for the School Board to continue to work with the County making sure the Head Start programs continue to be effective. Also, helping the County understand that the funding for those programs continues.

Additionally, working collaboratively with area pre-schools may be a way for the School Board to find innovative ways for all students to potentially gain strong early learning skills before entering kindergarten.

-Maintaining a balanced budget. -Addressing the skyrocketing cost of charter schools, which sends millions of dollars out of the public school system. -Creating a bully free atmosphere.
Any policy I would seek to implement would be with the intention of bringing people of all backgrounds together. Division in a community is a root cause of a lot of issues in school, from economics to racial factors I will work to help folks see that we are all on the same team.
Getting to the parents or guardians of those youngsters is key. We need to reach out as Board Members to the community to let everyone know that the sooner they get their kids involved in Early Learning the better it is for everyone involved. Research has shown that Early Learning in children increases productivity and chances of success in students.
