Qualifications for office I began my career as a teacher and have devoted much of my adult life to education and public service. I have also served many positions as a public education advocate at both the state and national levels, including serving as President of both the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and the National School Boards Association. These positions took me across the United States, providing insights into cutting edge educational practices in leading schools. My on-going service at the state and national levels has enabled me to stay on top of emerging education trends, as well as regulatory, le
District Upper St. Clair
Stay up to date on educational trends and their potential impact both positive and negative on teaching and learning in the Upper St. Clair School District.

Continue to evaluate School District expenditures to ensure they provide value for the taxpayer dollars invested in the education of our youth to become productive citizens.

Actively participate in the District’s upcoming five-year strategic plan seeking community wide input which will drive the future direction of the District for the next five years and beyond.
The Upper St. Clair School District mission statement includes the words “provides learning experiences that nurture the uniqueness of each child.” I would continue to work to enhance educational equity by supporting resource allotment for teaching and learning which create opportunities to meet student needs, require that discriminatory practices be eradicated and enhance current programs such as “No Place for Hate” to ensure all of our students feel welcome.
Numerous studies have shown children who participate in Early Learning are more likely to graduate, less likely to repeat a grade or require special education classes and have a solid foundation on which to build later learning. As school board members we can support collaboration among South Hills area educational service providers, businesses and government to enhance teaching and learning for all students preparing them to enter kindergarten ready to learn.

Having addressed the physical security of the District schools, we must continue to address the mental health and emotional wellness of the students across the District. We will examine current and new anti-bullying and kindness initiatives, focusing on tolerance, inclusion, and peer support. A second priority is to maintain the superior academic performance we currently enjoy District-wide. We cannot rest on our past achievements. A third priority is to provide a superior education in a fiscally responsible manner. We owe all residents a duty to be prudent, mindful and restrained in our spending.
We have implemented a Zero-Tolerance Policy regarding discrimination, bullying, or threatening behavior. We constantly review and evaluate the effectiveness of the policies we implement, and are working with our administrative staff to further our child-wellness initiatives. Going forward, we must continue to examine what type of broader programs promoting diversity and inclusion we can offer to our student families.
To the extent facilities, personnel and resources are available for the District to offer targeted and discreet pre-kindergarten early learning programs, the Board must consider the viability of such programs. For those programs that are offered for preschool instruction, the focus should be less on academic knowledge acquisition, and more on unstructured and creative play.

Education Upper St. Clair High School class of 2020
Qualifications for office I'm a student at the USC High School, so I would be directly in touch with the school board's most important constituency.
District Upper St. Clair
1. 8:30 AM start times

2. Reforming guidance and health class to provide a more comprehensive education on mental health and self-care.

3. Making sure students know their right to privacy.

I think that by educating students more clearly about what rights they have as American citizens will go a long way towards promoting social justice.
This is not really my area of expertise, but I think that making sure every child can go to a high quality preschool should be part of the School Board’s job.
