We have a few budget issues coming in the near future that need to be handled properly to insure we stay fiscally responsible and sound. We also have to address some state street parking concerns in way that helps our local businesses and doesn’t infringe on our residents or visitors. There are several solutions to both and through discussion and compromise we will find the best possible solutions.
Newtown Boro has done a fantastic job of continuing to keep alive the historic feel of our community while allowing intelligent growth. We have kept Newtown safe and beautiful and a great place to visit, shop, live and worship. We need to continue to make prudent financial, historical and zoning decisions to stay on track. If our budget is sound and we continue to use common sense decisions Newtown Boro will continue to be fantastic for many years to come. I am running for Boro Council because I want to be sure that Newtown stays headed in the current direction.
Having run several successful businesses I am familiar with everything it takes to run government properly. We must be fiscally responsible. We must negotiate wisely and get the best deal possible for what is needed. I don’t believe there has to be a “winner and a looser” in a negotiation. I also believe that it takes money to make money. We must build up a reserve for opportunities that present themselves. People are important. All of my business and everything I do in life involves people. I’ve learned to protect myself from people that may not have the best intentions. I also know there are many more good people than bad. I’ve learned if you build people up and give them the tools they need to succeed they will outshine expectations most of the time. If you are fair, people are usually fair in return. With simple common sense approach and kindness to people I believe anything is possible.

Striking the right balance between promoting business growth while maintaining our unique charm as an important historical, walkable where people will desire to live. Improving our parking issues will help and there are plans to create more capacity with further development of Steepleview.
To continue our strong progress made in achieving the important twin goals of promoting strong business development and maintaining the essence of our community. One way we do this is by keeping stable tax rates providing attractive incentives for both businesses and residents. Rocco’s at the Brick Hotel is a good example of enhancing the community by providing a top quality restaurant which is easily within walking distance of Borough residents.
I have decades of strong management experience in both the International and US markets. This included oversight of global operations for the company I worked for prior to my retirement. I do recognize that government management is different from business management but I believe I have proven myself with my fellow Councilors by exhibiting a clear vision in an open, collaborative and non-partisan manner. My time as President of the Council has shown that local government can be conducted in a civilized, non-partisan manner where issues, rather than politics, drive the process. We have a good team on Council and I would like to see it continue.

Bridging the historic qualities of Newtown with the challenges of developing viable business and residential opportunities with changing demographics of age and financial means within the Community. Identifying and finding solutions for traffic and parking patterns to encourage business without excess stress on residents. Developing a Community consensus on the needs of the Community and practical solutions to meet those needs.
Transitioning from a full time professional to the next phase of my life, I spent the past 12 months traveling the United States to determine where I wanted to live. I concluded Newtown Borough has all of the features of my search. When asked by my neighbors to serve on Council, I concluded that such service would allow me to return the many benefits I received from a wonderful Community.
The main focus of my professional life has been to identify and develop strategies for solving financial problems. The ability to achieve success is based upon the understanding of the personalities of the persons or companies which have been my clients. Having been recognized by my professional peers in blind surveys for the highest qualities of integrity and competence, my professional success has been acknowledged. This background and experience will enable me to address the needs of Newtown.

Retaining the historic charm of Newtown, while supporting existing and encouraging new businesses, is our biggest challenge. The Borough needs to develop a vision of what we want to be in the future, what types of businesses we want to attract, and what amenities we want to make the town attractive to business, as well as residents, young and old.

A beautification program is needed to spruce up downtown and help businesses make needed improvements. Environmental Advisory Committee recommendations should be adopted without delay. We are a Tree City USA but must strengthen support to the Shade Tree Commission, including appropriate funding. We also have issues with traffic and parking which must be addressed.

Grants of various types are available to help support many of these activities, reducing the financial burden on the Borough and on business owners. We should have a list of projects scoped and ready so that we are able to take advantage of these grants.
My husband and I love this historic town, and although we have lived in many places in the last 47 years, we decided to remain in Newtown after I retired in October 2017. I want to be part of developing a common vision of what the community wants the town to be in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years. And once we have that common vision, I want to help develop the plan to ensure we achieve it.

The success of long term plans is determined by the setting of - and measuring progress on - short and medium term goals that support the longer term objective. I spent my career working with others, building these detailed plans, modifying them as needed, and achieving the desired results. I want to use my experience to make Newtown an even better place to live and work.

As owner of a new small business, I am even more committed to making Newtown a vibrant place in which to live and work.
I have 40 years of experience in industry, and a proven track record of using consensus building and teamwork to achieve target objectives. I have successfully managed small and large teams, ending my career as Vice President of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. I have extensive experience in contract negotiation and management, working with others to find optimum solutions to complex problems. My project and process management experience has equipped me with techniques to not only successfully budget and control costs, but also to identify and target sustainable process efficiency improvements, and thereby cost savings. I will use all of these skills to work with the community to define our vision, and to develop and execute a detailed plan to ensure that this vision is achieved.
