A school board is a legislative body of citizens called school directors, who are elected locally by their fellow citizens and who serve as the governing body of each public school district. Each board consists of nine members who serve four-year terms of office. Unlike most other elected officials, school directors receive no compensation for their work. Principal duties include appointing and/or dismissing superintendents, principals and teachers; levying school taxes; purchasing land; locating new buildings; adopting textbooks and courses of study; fixing salaries of teachers and other appointees of the Board.

As a current School Board Member, it is my desire to continue in this role until we have transformed the Quakertown Community School District into a model District for the area. We have taken the necessary steps to strengthen our financial position, to improve our curriculum, and to increase the academic performance of our students. These continue to be our goals. We have done this by putting in place an Administrative team dedicated to implementing the necessary measures to forward those goals. We have done this by supporting our teaching staff with a generous compensation package; one that routinely ranks in the top 10 across our State, which consists of 500 school districts. We have done this by challenging our students, asking every college bound child to take at least 1 AP course prior to graduation, and by encouraging non-college bound students to consider participation at the Technical School. We are succeeding.
I have been a School Director in the Quakertown Community School District since August 2014. This year marks the fifth straight year our District has received a Silver recognition from U.S. News & World Report as one of the top High Schools in the nation. We have taken bold steps over the past few years; moves that have often been met with criticism from our community. Yet I believe the current state of our District has improved. Our average SAT scores continue to increase. The number of students taking AND passing an AP exam continues to increase. We are about to institute a construction project involving one of our elementary schools that should put us in a position where we can thereafter NOT have to spend money on School construction for several years. Our Administration and teaching staff are generously compensated and continue to perform at a high level. I have been a School Director during the start of this amazing transformation; I want to continue to see it through.

I want to see the district focus on the needs of the students and how to provide them with the best Education possible. They have raised taxes for more than 20 years in a row and still we are losing teachers and support staff, schools are being closed, other schools need repairs, and they are projecting another budget deficit and they just announced another tax increase next year with more expected over the next 5 years.
This fiscal irresponsibility has created a district where students are being crowded into classroom because they can’t afford the facilities or the staff to meet students needs. Students are not getting the services they require, or they don’t have access to the resources that would help them succeed.
My kids are just entering the district and I want to make sure they get the education that they, and the rest of the kids in the district, deserve.
I have my Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Student Development, and have worked at all levels of education, from Pre-K to College, for more than 20 years. I understand the needs of students and the challenges that teachers and staff members have to overcome to meet their needs.
I also understand the incredible obligation the district has to the people of the community and their role in keeping the community strong.

Its always about the Budget. Balancing the built in cost increases and the need to provide the best education possible. Nearly 80 percent of our Budget is fixed. The largest portion of the fixed budget are Salaries and benefits. We need to make sure that our schools continue to be operated efficiently and safely.
Keeping reign on fixed costs wherever possible and a continual awareness of potential efficiencies is most important to our taxpayers especially those on limited or fixed budgets. We need to keep that at the forefront.
I served over four years on a previous board.I was honored to serve as a School Director and understand the difficulties of the job. We were able to limit tax increases to no more than Act 1 , which is my commitment as well this election. Further - we need to have a Direction for a ZERO tax increases to provide relief to our taxpayers. They have shouldered the financial burden for too long.
