One of the most important issues facing the Pennsbury School District is the utilization and condition of our existing facilities. There needs to be a district wide plan for usage and upkeep of our current facilities.. Taxpayers need to see that we are working to maintain our buildings for the future. Funds need to be allocated for building upgrades, not for new construction. I plan to utilize my expertise in the construction profession to establish an affordable long range plan for the utilization and upkeep of all facilities within Pennsbury. If we put the time and dollars into maintaining our current facilities, we will be able to send our students to buildings they can be proud of and taxpayers can afford.
As a professional in the construction field, I'm responsible for the management and completion of large scale building projects. I have worked as a team player within this industry. I view the school board as it is now, as individual agendas. I plan on bringing a cooperative, team approach to moving the Pennsbury School District forward into the 21st century. School board members need to keep in mind that they represent the students, taxpayers, parents and staff first, not their own personal agendas. I would hope that if elected, I can bring this style of leadership to the Board. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. The board should operate under the idea that it takes all stakeholders to successfully prepare our students for the future.

Our District has been in disarray for the last few years. There has been a lack of professionalism, respect, trust, and civility among the leadership and those who support that leadership. The Community is unable to trust the board and/or the district because of this disgraceful behavior. I am hopeful this can change. I want to bring normalcy back to the school board and, once again, make the community proud of our school district. I want to bring professionalism, respect, trust and civility to the board. Additionally, the board needs to stop being reactionary on issues that face the district. The board needs to take a more holistic approach to solving problems. We need to consider long term sustainability in all areas including facilities, education needs and salaries. The goal is to balance all the needs of the district, keeping students first, and still respect the taxpayer. To this end, I have decided to run with two other candidates who share these same philosophies.
For over 11 years, I have been a School board Director. Because of my experience, I understand the function of the board, and I can be a mentor to the newer members. Educationally, I received a dual major in Resource Management and Forest Biology. I was taught good management and economic practices. My science background has trained me to be analytical and methodical in my decision making process. During my 34 years with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, I worked closely with elected officials, in both the public and private sectors, and I developed a good understanding of how to serve the public within the constraints of the law. Overall, the combination of this experience has enabled me to be thoughtful, reasonable, open, and willing to involve the public in the decision making process.

Having worked for the district, I saw first-hand that morale of our employees was slipping away. I believe students learn better in a happier environment. I feel our staff hasn’t been shown the respect they deserve and re-opening dialogue with them can really affect some change in morale. While this was my initial concern, I now have many more, with aging infrastructure topping the list. I would like to implement a solid long-term plan with community involvement to address action on this challenging issue.
During my seven year employment with the district, I had the opportunity to visit each school, where I got to know a large portion of the staff and the facilities inside and out. I believe this will be a great asset to have a school board member with such intimate knowledge of the inner workings of a district. I hold a degree in Finance and currently employ 13 people at my business. My talents in budgeting and employee relations will lend well to decisions on the board. I also attended Delaware Valley University for education and currently hold an Intern Teaching Certificate. This education gives me better insight into the issues our teachers face in education.
