Palisades School District School Director Region 3 (4 YR Term)
A school board is a legislative body of citizens called school directors, who are elected locally by their fellow citizens and who serve as the governing body of each public school district. Each board consists of nine members who serve four-year terms of office. Unlike most other elected officials, school directors receive no compensation for their work. Principal duties include appointing and/or dismissing superintendents, principals and teachers; levying school taxes; purchasing land; locating new buildings; adopting textbooks and courses of study; fixing salaries of teachers and other appointees of the Board.

What concerns or issues prompted you to run for School Board, and how do you propose to address them?
What qualifications and experience do you have that will assist you in the performance of the duties of this office?
I have 20 years of experience working to improve the lives of children and families in the Bucks County area both in the fields of child welfare (Children & Youth) and mental health (Penn Foundation).
I have earned a B.A. in Psychology from Rowan University and an M.S.W. from Rutgers University.
Our region is faced with increased concerns regarding addiction, children's mental health & well-being, and school safety concerns. We need to be proactive, remove barriers to learning, support the needs of students and teachers by building positive learning environments where students and teachers have the tools they need to feel physically & emotionally safe and successful. Our schools can partner with local community mental health agencies and explore trainings on social & emotional learning for staff to find solutions, think long-term, and help identify needs before they arise. Getting ahead of these issues is more cost effective and best for the public good. Our teachers also need to feel appreciated and believe that their skills are valued and parents need to be engaged in meaningful ways. Responsible and efficient planning in public education means being proactively engaged in the public good and we can't afford to underutilize community resources to accomplish our goals.
I am a home owner and mother of three children in the Palisades School District. I have been working in the Bucks County area as a social worker for 20 years trying to improve the lives of children and families. I have experience as a child welfare social worker at The Bucks County Children and Youth Social Services Agency and I currently work as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist at Penn Foundation, the largest mental health agency in the area. In these roles, I've collaborated with various community agencies and schools and gained a vast knowledge of local resources and community supports for children and families. I believe that any leadership role in working with children requires a collaborative, systemic and strengths-based approach, seeing the "big picture," when it comes to educating the whole child. As a social worker, I am well aware of the finite amount of financial resources. Evidenced-based practices is how we make effective decisions allocating those resources.
Over 25 yrs. corporate experience handling budgets, training, marketing & customer service. A 30 yr. history of volunteerism in various community groups, I continue to coach baseball & basketball.
Bachelor’s degree in Management and Organizational Behavior from NYU.
The reasons I decided to run for school board are the same today as they were when I first ran. I have a passion to see this next generation succeed. I want the best education possible for this up and coming generation while getting the most effective and efficient use of precious tax dollars. We also need to continue to address the whole child - mind and body, more work needs to be done in the area of mental well being. Education is evolving and we need to be at the forefront of this evolution. These are the main reasons I decided I needed to get in the game and use my experience, knowledge and passion to continually strive to meet this goal. Make no mistake this balancing act is a constant battle & there is still work to be done. I am truly appreciative of the opportunity to serve.
As a parent, taxpayer & spouse of a teacher, the balance between delivering a first rate education and how to pay for it are very real to me. My over 30 years of work experience taught me the need for fiscal accountability and what skills are needed to succeed in the workplace. My experience as a dad has given me a passion to fight for the best education possible for my children as well as my neighbors’ children.
