Morrisville Borough School District School Director (2 YR Term)

A school board is a legislative body of citizens called school directors, who are elected locally by their fellow citizens and who serve as the governing body of each public school district. Each board consists of nine members who serve four-year terms of office. Unlike most other elected officials, school directors receive no compensation for their work. Principal duties include appointing and/or dismissing superintendents, principals and teachers; levying school taxes; purchasing land; locating new buildings; adopting textbooks and courses of study; fixing salaries of teachers and other appointees of the Board.

While there are many concerns surrounding the Morrisville School district, my decision to run was more about the civic responsibility as a parent of the community to be involved at what ever level I can attain. With my increased involvement in the Morrisville Opportunity Education Foundation as well at the Morrisville Performance Arts Booster, it became increasingly clear that this community cannot survive without direct involvement. My particular interests surrounds the increasing need for a broader band of district communication as well as a path to join together what can, at times, appear to be a divided community. My current education in Organizational Development and Leadership lends itself nicely to the process of connecting the human element of any organization. My motto is: together we are better and I truly believe that. #togetherwearebetter
As a daughter of a Political Science professor (father) and active member of the League of Woman Voters (mother, in Westchester County New York) it, oddly, took me a while to gain my passion for participation in civic responsibilities. Since joining MOEF and the Morrisville Performance Arts Booster it has become clear to me that parent participation in community process is an important part of my life. Organizational Development and Leadership covers many things, all which lend themselves nicely to the ability to effect groups. This includes things like coaching, organizational transitions, the role of culture and core values within an organizational system. I come with an incredible amount of self awareness and creativity. I also have a vested interest in the success of our schools: in addition to one daughter that graduated out of MMHS in 2007, I currently have three children attending Morrisville Middle/High school, an 8th grader, 10th grader and one who graduating this year.
