Council Rock School District School Director Region 9 (2 YR Term)

A school board is a legislative body of citizens called school directors, who are elected locally by their fellow citizens and who serve as the governing body of each public school district. Each board consists of nine members who serve four-year terms of office. Unlike most other elected officials, school directors receive no compensation for their work. Principal duties include appointing and/or dismissing superintendents, principals and teachers; levying school taxes; purchasing land; locating new buildings; adopting textbooks and courses of study; fixing salaries of teachers and other appointees of the Board.

Experience Marcell is a Council Rock graduate that was appointed to the Council Rock Board in August 2018 to represent Region #9. She is a communications executive that resides in Wrightstown with her family.
Education Bachelors of Art, Penn State University Masters of Public Policy, George Washington University
As a Wrightstown resident, I became involved with Council Rock School District and Board during the Master Capital Planning process over six years ago. Working alongside various community members, I wanted to ensure the Board was engaged with the public on this important topic and were as transparent as possible throughout the process. In addition to wanting to learn more about the difficult financial decisions facing Council Rock as a parent and taxpayer, I also had a strong belief in the importance of community schools that I wanted to contribute to the dialogue.

Because of my earlier involvement, I interviewed for the Region 9 Board seat in August 2018 and was appointed unanimously. Given my history with Council Rock, deep respect for education and keen interest in helping to support the future of our community’s school district, my goal is to continue to improve academics, while ensuring that our students are receiving a quality education at a reasonable cost.
My passion for education, and specifically a Council Rock education, began when I was a child since my father and stepmother taught in various schools across the district. As a native to this area, I am dedicated to continuing and building on the excellent education that provided me the opportunity to achieve my life’s goals as a Council Rock graduate.

During Council Rock’s past Master Capital Planning process and redistricting efforts, I appreciated the opportunity to share my perspective as a parent and communications professional. Since being appointed to the Board in August 2018, I’ve continued to assist in this area with a focus on transparency, perception and community engagement. As a communications and marketing professional, I’ve spent years counseling organizations and companies on media relations, crisis communications, industry leadership, etc.

Finally, as a parent with younger children in the district, I believe that I bring a different perspective to the Board.
