Central Bucks School District School Director Region 3 (4 YR Term)

A school board is a legislative body of citizens called school directors, who are elected locally by their fellow citizens and who serve as the governing body of each public school district. Each board consists of nine members who serve four-year terms of office. Unlike most other elected officials, school directors receive no compensation for their work. Principal duties include appointing and/or dismissing superintendents, principals and teachers; levying school taxes; purchasing land; locating new buildings; adopting textbooks and courses of study; fixing salaries of teachers and other appointees of the Board.

This is an excellent school district, but I believe I could help make it better. I want to see us continue to excel academically and in sports but we also need greater emphasis on critical thinking, social skills, diversity and inclusion. Education is about preparing our students for what comes next in life, which sometimes is not college. We need to provide a well-balanced rounded education that equips our students for all of life’s challenges. The biggest issues that stand in our way are behavioral: bullying, self-harming, suicide ideation and Mental Health Issues (often interconnected). We need to support students emotionally so they can benefit most from our academic offerings. Students learn best when they feel well accepted and connected. I would push for a rigorous examination of how best to support our students and teachers, identifying the barriers to learning, and then resolving them. Then I think we will see a quantum leap in the caliber of our already outstanding graduates.
My experience managing large budgets as the COO of a successful company will help the board deliver our services in a cost-effective manner. Our budget is sizeable; we owe it to our stakeholders to get the best bang for their bucks. My background as a Scientist and long-term interest in both STEM (Regional Science Fair Judge & Mentor) and the Arts (National History Day Judge) has won the respect and support of educators in our district as well as the endorsement of 314 Action. My involvement with The Peace Center and their successful programs to address bullying enables me to help the board address the support needs of our students and teachers as does my active participation in both the Bucks County Health and Mental Health boards. My interest in providing the right support for our students and teachers is a direct result of my own experiences. I was bullied and my Nephew’s son is autistic. We can achieve all these things without additional tax dollars if we have the right leadership!

Our community celebrates the successes of Central Bucks School District; however, we still face many challenges. As your School Board Director, I will confront these challenges head on through research and working with administration to find new opportunities to improve curriculum and student engagement; while looking for ways to better prepare our children for the future. I will focus on fiscal responsibility by working hard to make sure that our hard earned tax dollars are spent wisely, without raising taxes. I will support and grow STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) initiatives. In addition, I commit to making our schools as safe as possible with an environment where every child spends their day free from unnecessary stresses that distract from their learning. Please join me on this exciting journey to improve the future of our greatest resource, our children.
I am the candidate with unique qualifications and experience geared towards education, community and our children. I began my career at the US Department of Education with Safe and Drug Free School Programs and the Office of Elem and Secondary Ed. I taught school for eight years at the elementary school level. I then decided to stay home and raise my children. I later began work with a corporation. During my time at home raising my children, I remained very active in the community as well as the schools. I have volunteered with Central Bucks School district as: president of the Home and School Association, classroom coordinator, Girl Scout leader and freshman field hockey coach at CB East High School, just to name a few. In Buckingham Twp I have served as: president of the MOMS Club, board of directors for Buckingham Twp Civic Association, coordinator for the Buckingham Twp Easter Egg Hunt and committee member of Buckingham's Meet the Candidate's Night, just to name a few.
