Central Bucks School District School Director Region 2 (4 YR Term)

A school board is a legislative body of citizens called school directors, who are elected locally by their fellow citizens and who serve as the governing body of each public school district. Each board consists of nine members who serve four-year terms of office. Unlike most other elected officials, school directors receive no compensation for their work. Principal duties include appointing and/or dismissing superintendents, principals and teachers; levying school taxes; purchasing land; locating new buildings; adopting textbooks and courses of study; fixing salaries of teachers and other appointees of the Board.

My decision to run for school board has been inspired by my experiences as both a mom and an educator. As a mom, I struggled through the evaluation and IEP process to ensure that my sons get the special education services and therapies that they need. My background in education allowed me to be a strong advocate for my children; however, not all parents have this knowledge or experience. That's why it's so important that there are people, like myself, in decision-making positions who can advocate for all children and families. As an educator, I feel strongly that the Central Bucks School Board should consist of several board members who possess a background in education. I want to ensure that the district's schools, teachers, and families are given the resources they need in order to maintain educational excellence in Central Bucks. I believe we must take a student-first approach to decision-making that is data-driven, fiscally responsible, and prioritizes the needs of all students.
I am an experienced educator with a doctoral degree in curriculum, instruction, and technology in education. My teaching career began as a Peace Corps volunteer in Gabon and continued as I taught English to speakers of other languages in China, the School District of Philadelphia, and at Bucks County Community College. In addition to teaching English courses, I have also taught teacher education courses at Temple University, Lehigh University, and the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2009, I have worked at the University of Pennsylvania where I serve as the Associate Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the English Language Programs. In this role, I oversee English instruction for international students on campus and online for students abroad; while also engaging in strategic planning, program development, research oversight, and grant management. I am confident that my background in educational design, delivery, and policy would be a valuable asset to our school board.

Central Bucks is an outstanding district of which we are all very proud. My biggest concern is ensuring a secure and healthy learning environment for all children in the district. I would work with the superintendent, board members, school staff, parents and students to develop and implement policies which address the following issues: 1. Building security 2. School start times 3. The positive and negative effects of rapidly evolving technologies

I am a 40 year resident of Bucks County and have lived in Buckingham for 10 years. I have degrees in Pulblic Administration and Political Science and have worked in government and in the private sector. My husband and I have 3 sons attending CB schools. I served 2 years as Co-President and 2 years as Vice President of the Cold Spring Elementary Home and School Association. During that time I was a member of the CB Report Card Committee, which restored letter grades for students in grades 4-6. These volunteer positions have afforded me the opportunity to work closely with principals, administrators, CB staff, teachers, students, and parents. In the upcoming school year my children will be attending elementary, middle and high school, giving me a unique perspective on the issues and concerns affecting CB students and families at all levels.
