Court of Common Pleas Judge

The Courts of Common Pleas are the
general trial courts of Pennsylvania. Judges on the Courts of Common Pleas are
responsible for hearing: (1) Appeals from the minor courts; (2) Appeals not
exclusively assigned to another court; and (3) Matters involving children and
families.
Common Pleas judges are elected to
ten year terms, after which they stand for a retention (yes/no) election.
Common Pleas judges must be lawyers, at least 18 years old, and resident of
Pennsylvania.
