I supported every bill that was introduced last session that addressed issues specific to inequalities that face women. Women continue to get paid less than men for the same job, more so for minority women. Union membership is one of the most effective ways to close that pay gap. I support any measure that makes it easier for all Nevadans, especially women, to organize and collectively bargain for their pay. I also support helping to make child care more affordable for working Nevadans. This issue disproportionately affects women trying to support their families. I also support Ballot Question 2.
A quality public education is a right of all Nevadans. Our public education system in underfunded. I feel that we should increase revenues and fund public education at the levels of other states who have the outcomes we wish to achieve.
Our property tax system needs reform. The increase in revenue does not match the increase we have seen in property values. All new growth should fund the increase in services that result from that growth. We should work to promote our successful clean energy economy while ensuring that those jobs benefit Nevada's companies and Nevada's workers. I believe we should promote organized labor. Strong union membership equals a healthy middle class that benefits our entire economy. I also think that we should raise the minimum wage.
We should enact universal background checks on all gun sales. We need to make sure people who have committed violent crimes never legally buy a gun.
Our country needs to streamline the process to allow immigrants to achieve citizenship. We need to quit criminalizing immigrants who have come to this country to escape violence and extreme poverty, regardless of their status. We need to protect immigrants who were brought here as children and provide them and their families with a clear path to permanent residency or citizenship. We should never separate families or detain children.
