As a mother, union leader, and professional scientist, I am committed to improving the lives of women and families. I will fight for paid family leave, earned sick time, and affordable child care – streamlining regulations for providers and increasing grants for child care assistance. I will fight for equal pay for equal work and wage theft protections, and build on the Women’s Economic Security Act. I will support learning from early childhood through career training – particularly for girls pursuing high-paying STEM careers now dominated by men. I will act to reduce sexual harassment in the workplace. No one should have to deal with sexual harassment – and if they do, they should be able to do something about it.
Fighting for our students to get a world-class education is critical to protecting Minnesota’s legacy of educational excellence. Voluntary, universal pre-K options would ensure that every child enters school ready to learn. Fully funding our schools – including special education - would provide all our students and teachers the classroom and supportive resources they need to create the next generation of leaders - business owners, scientists, people working in the trades. South St. Paul and South Washington School Districts needed Emergency School Aid in 2018, which Republicans failed to provide, while voting for $1.3 billion in tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. Our children have unlimited potential. Let’s help them reach it.
Building a vibrant economy that works for us all means protecting the freedom to pursue our dreams and care for our loved ones. I will work for affordable health care that won’t bankrupt you if you get sick. I will fight to ensure equal pay for equal work, paid family leave, earned sick time, wage theft protections, and affordable child care to help families get ahead. I will defend the freedom to have a fair shake - to join together, negotiate, and speak up for better pay and better working conditions. I will support clean energy jobs – good for our economy, our health, and our environment. I will work to reform tax policies to close corporate tax loopholes. I will put people first, and make the American dream achievable again.
I support common-sense gun violence prevention measures to ensure that we are safe. Criminal background checks on every gun sale – including online and at gun shows - will keep guns out of the hands of criminals and domestic abusers, and is supported by 90 percent of Minnesotans. Gun violence prevention orders will help law enforcement or family members keep guns out of the hands of those who may harm themselves or others. Mental health counseling in schools will provide students the help they need. I am grateful for the endorsement of Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action Against Gun Violence, and am committed to these solutions supported by Minnesotans and law enforcement.
People in Minnesota have a deep tradition of welcoming children and families in need. I am disappointed the federal government has not addressed the failures of our current immigration policy. I support allowing local governments doing what they need to protect the safety of their citizens and ensuring that anyone can call for help. We should ensure that people coming here with professional experience can quickly contribute to MInnesota communities and our economy. Working together, we can strengthen our communities across the state by improving educational opportunities, investing in a brighter future for our families, and increasing economic prosperity for all Minnesotans of different races and from different places.
