I will continue working on issues that are important to women and working with other women legislators in drafting language for issues that involve the issues women value most.
I believe we need to start looking at where the money is going. We continue to increase school funding and yet there is no where near enough money. All districts are not the same and should have the flexibility to use the money to their best advantage. Our district is more metro than rural and it is a regional center for special education. There is more funding needed because of that. We have many new to country students with either no or little education and little or no english skills. That needs to matter when the funding is dispersed.
We need to reform tax policies. We are seeing improvement in the reforms that have been put in place already.
We need to take a good look at what the profile is/was for past shooters and see what we are learning. A common theme that I keep hearing is one of noticing bad behavior and not reporting it because of privacy issues or just not wanting to rock the boat. That is certainly not working. We need to be more proactive in reporting and in recognizing mental health signs. We have to be vigilant in reporting these things.
I believe that we need to know more about folks coming here. Needs cannot be met if communities are flooded with folks. Municipalities need to be prepared to take care of the folks coming here.
