Why are you running for this office? What are your top priorities?

Relevant Experience 18 year resident, 3 children in school system, expert in Public Records and Open Meeting Law.
Transparency, Transparency, Transparency! Over the past several years, the School Committee has become an insular body, closed off from the people it was elected to represent. It has instituted a Citizens Speak policy that prevents dialog. It constantly fights requests for public information. It has violated both Open Meeting Law and Public Records Law dozens of times. It does not respond to questions, nor does it answer phone calls or emails. Our public bodies should be above reproach, but somehow the School Committee has gotten the idea that it is above the law. I will do everything I can to restore the rule of law to the School Committee and return it to serving the community that it is supposed to represent, rather than the entrenched bureaucracy that has become its master.
Relevant Experience Board leadership role: WMS PTO, WEF, Teachers21. Worked on: WPS 2013-19 Strategic Plan, Progress Rpt
With 2 sons who benefited greatly from a WPS education, leadership track record at org's that support our schools and brief program mgt stint in WPS’ Central Office, I have 1st-hand knowledge and appreciation for opportunities & challenges facing WPS. I welcome the chance to lend my collaborative results-driven approach, analytical skills & business experience–augmented by 10 yrs of nonprofit service–to the important work of School Committee. My priorities: Common understanding of what it means to prepare students to be global citizens in life beyond WPS–critical input for strategic planning; Strong programs around 21st c. skills, STEM; Inclusive school climate; Fiscal responsibility. The schools are key to why people choose Wellesley. It would be a privilege to serve on School Committee.
Relevant Experience School Cmte (elected 2015, Chair 2016-17); Chair, School Building Cmte; TMM 2014-present, Precinct C
I am running for re-election to serve and support all Wellesley students as they make their way from PAWS through WHS. My top priorities include: 1) Continue to work with the rest of the Committee and the administration to create budgets that meet our students’ needs, advance new initiatives, and provide excellence in education, while working within the fiscal limitations faced by the town. 2) Collaborate with WPS, parents, students, and the community in 2018-19 to develop an updated schools strategic plan that will serve the town for at least the next half-decade. 3) Move forward with feasibility studies for Hardy, Hunnewell, and Upham, and continue to work to reach consensus on rebuilding schools to suit 21st century education. 4) Support and advance critical capital improvements at WMS.
