As a city planner by trade, and an active member of my community, I believe I have a unique qualification to serve our city responsibly and effectively at its next City Councilmember. As a city planner, I had adept knowledge of issues pertinent to the City Council, such as local zoning code, responsible development and planning, and properly listening to residents ideas and concerns. Additionally, having lived in Duluth for most of my life, I’ve had the opportunity to serve on multiple city boards, such as the Citizen's Budget Advisory Board and the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Serving on these board has taught me how to serve our city effectively, and has given me a unique training for becoming a City Councilmember.

I’m running for Post two on the Duluth City Council because I believe the city needs to do more to listen to our residents, and push forward citizens-focused solutions. Duluth is a great city, but there’s more we can do help make it better. If elected, I’ll fight each and everyday to make sure our city government is responsive, effective and focused on engaging all city stakeholders to help build a better tomorrow.
The biggest budget issue facing Duluth is a need for new revenue. As our city has grown, our need for more funding has as well, to meet the demands of our residents. We must be creative and diligent in finding new revenue sources that have minimal impact on the taxes and fees our residents and businesses receive. Examples of such revenue sources would include, corporate sponsorship's for city events, expanded city programming, and business expos.
Unlike neighboring cities, Duluth should be proud that we haven’t been tainted with the same scandals and unethical behavior. That being said, we must always do what we can to make sure our city government, and it’s leaders, are acting in a fair manner that serves the unique needs of all of our residents. As I’ve gone door to door during this campaign, many residents have expressed a concern their voices haven’t been heard. If elected, I promise to do what I can to make sure our city is listening to all of our residents and doing what it can to serve them.
I’m proud of our diversity, and I believe that it’s a unique strength our city has. We can and must do more to make sure our city government is fair and equitable to those who contribute to helping make our community a better place. If elected, I’ll explore ways to expand upon current efforts, such as the Korean task force, as well as create new ones. Diversity and inclusion is something near and dear to my heart, and it’s something I’ll advocate for each and every day when elected.
Our city must do all it can to help protect our environment in a responsible manner. As an owner of an electric car, I know firsthand the importance of preserving our environment, and I’ll bring that spirit to the City Council. If elected, I’ll explore opportunities to install electric vehicle charging stations on city property, as well as provide financial incentives to private business owners to develop them on their property.

Additionally, I will work with City staff to implement fiscally-responsible ways to improve our cities infrastructure, helping make it the most environmentally sustainable it can be. This includes utilizing federal and state government grants to update our vehicle fleet to hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as retrofitting our cities buildings with energy and water conservation retrofits.

Lastly, I will work to make sure we’re incorporating environmentally sustainable practices into our cities planning, such as rain gardens and other ways to help reduce stormwater runoff.

I currently hold a council seat and I'm seeking re-election. My vision for serving on the city council is to provide positive leadership and to take an active role in the decision-making processes of our local government. My actions and decisions are driven to enable our citizens to enjoy their community to its fullest and take pride in calling Duluth their hometown.

I've been involved with and support our ongoing downtown development and revitalization, our green space initiatives, and our parks and recreation programs. I'm a 33 yr resident and I'm passionate and dedicated to Duluth.

I'm actively involved in my church ministries, serve on numerous city boards, liaison to our business association, 30 continuous years as a volunteer to our fall festival committee (4 times as chairman), and my wife and I like to shop and eat locally.

I am motivated to serve because I love Duluth, and have been an active resident since I moved here. I love having the ability to shape and to contribute to our city's growth.

I want to continue to bring economic development to Duluth by attracting new businesses, building city/business partnerships, promote local arts as a major attraction, and continue to enhance our infrastructures.
Our biggest budget issue has always been how to keep expenses down but still provide all the services our citizens need and want. We don't want to ever take anything back which we've made available to them.

I would look to bring in new annexation, new businesses and possible motel/hotel to increase our tax revenue without putting that burden on the citizens. I will continue to support all efforts to seek gift matching Grant programs and joint public/private partnerships for new projects.
Duluth council has an Ethics Review Committee in place to handle any ethical violations or issues which may be presented. We offer open records requests as determined by municipal law.

I personally look at all issues openly and objectively. I don't bring any preconceived notions or hidden agendas and believe in honesty, integrity and ethical values. I believe all of our actions and decisions should be made for the good of the community and those we serve.
Our city is open to all legal businesses and entrepreneurs who seek to invest or establish businesses within our city limits. Opportunities are welcomed to all. We embrace diversity and have many citizens and businesses of different backgrounds and cultures living, working and holding businesses in our city.
We are strong supporters of the work/live/play ideas that have become very popular in the past couple of years. We encourage new developments of single family, town homes, condos, and apartments within walking distance to our shops and restaurants.

We have established bike and walking trails throughout our parks and green space areas. We have built many new sidewalks within our subdivisions and along major roadways to provide connectivity to our downtown area and other areas of interest. We recently provided a new Uber/Lyft pickup/drop off location within our downtown area for easy access without having to find a parking spot.

We are working closely with ARC to study and review improvements to our road ways, traffic flow and alternate methods of transportation in and through our city.
